1. Crystallographic studies on redox enzymes containing the thioredoxin fold
Abstract : Three-dimensional structures of two redox enzymes, glutathione peroxidase from human plasma and a protein disulfide oxidoreductase from the archaeon Pyrococcus furiosus, have been determined by X-ray crystallography. Glutathione peroxidases constitute a family of antioxidant seleno-enzymes that catalyze the reduction of a variety of hydroperoxides. READ MORE

2. Almost-axial impact on elastic and viscoelastic cantilever columns
Abstract : Almost-axial impact between a rigid body and a cantilever column is studied. A preliminary study of the contact process is presented for a flat-ended impacting body and a flat-ended elastic Timoshenko column with rectangular cross-section. The equations of motion pertaining to the column are solved using an explicit finite difference method. READ MORE

3. Fishing for small molecules to treat diabetes, from a beta cell perspective
Abstract : Maintenance of glucose homeostasis necessitates a precise control of insulin secretion. Pancreatic β cells sense fluctuation of blood glucose and secret insulin in response. However, functional β cell mass is decreased in diabetes. Here, to recover functional β cell mass, we use zebrafish as a model to perform in vivo drug discovery. READ MORE

4. Thioredoxin and glutaredoxin systems under oxidative and nitrosative stress
Abstract : Our knowledge about reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) has been changed from simple damaging molecules to redox signaling mediators. ROS/RNS mediated signaling is mainly based on the reversible post-translational modifications of cysteine which works as a switch for protein functions. READ MORE

5. Annealing of Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 Thin Films : A Study of Secondary Compounds and Their Effects on Solar Cells
Abstract : Kesterite Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) is interesting as a sustainable photovoltaic technology due to its earth-abundant elements and suitable semiconducting properties. To date, a record efficiency of 12.6% has been achieved but further improvements are required to reach high efficiency for industrial implementation. READ MORE
