  1. 1. Surgical Management of Rib Fractures Following Trauma

    Author : Eva Corina Caragounis; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mechanism of Injury; Rib Fracture; Flail chest; Surgery; Mechanical Ventilator; Lung Function; Pain; Quality of Life;

    Abstract : Background: Surgical management of chest wall injuries has received increasing attention in recent years. The aim of this thesis was to study the mechanism of injury (MOI) in relation to chest wall injury patterns and short- and long-term outcome of surgery in patients with multiple rib fractures and unstable thoracic cage injuries. 2. 2. PROTEIN VACCINE AGAINST NEONATAL GROUP B STREPTOCOCCAL INFECTION Immunization experiments in animals and a serological study in humans

    Author : Charlotte U Larsson; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bakteriologi; mycology; bacteriology; Microbiology; virologi; mykologi; neonatal infection; human antibody; intranasal; vaccine; cholera toxin B subunit; Rib; α; Group B streptococcus; surface protein; Mikrobiologi; virology;

    Abstract : Infection with group B streptococcus (GBS), an encapsulated bacterium, is an important cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality. Capsular polysaccharides and cell surface proteins of GBS are candidate antigens for development of a human GBS vaccine. Proteins have many advantages as vaccine antigens. READ MORE

  3. 3. Molecular studies on streptococcal surface proteins

    Author : Johan Waldemarsson; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nonimmunodominance; vaccine; camouflaging; Streptococcus agalactiae; leucine-rich repeat; Streptococcus pyogenes; alpha; fibrinogen; M protein; surface proteins; Rib;

    Abstract : Streptococcus agalactiae and Streptococcus pyogenes are two related human pathogens causing different diseases. This thesis focuses on a number of surface proteins expressed by S. agalactiae and S. pyogenes and, more specifically, the molecular and biological characterization of these proteins. READ MORE

  4. 4. Rib stress fractures in elite rowers

    Author : Anders Vinther; Människan i rörelse: hälsa och rehabilitering; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The aim was to investigate potential risk factors and suggested injury mechanisms involved in the development of exercise-induced rib stress fractures (RSF) in elite rowers as well as investigate biomechanical and neuromuscular differences of ergometer rowing in stationary and slide-based ergometers. BMD and muscle strength was assessed as well as EMG of thoracic muscles and rowing technique during ergometer rowing in rowers with previous RSF and controls. READ MORE

  5. 5. Finger Joint Reconstruction with Rib Perichondrium

    Author : Daniel Muder; Torbjörn Vedung; Nils Hailer; Ola Nilsson; Simon Farnebo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; finger joint; reconstruction; cartilage; transplantation; osteoarthritis; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi;

    Abstract : Difficulties in repairing and reconstructing articular cartilage damaged by trauma or disease remain unsolved and are one of the major challenges confronting orthopedic and hand surgeons in their clinical work. Relevant research has not adequately described the long-term clinical results, nor has it made a direct comparison to implant surgery after finger joint reconstruction with rib perichondrium.
