1. Monitoring transport and fate of de-icing salt in the roadside environment : Modelling and field measurements
Abstract : Roads and traffic are a major non-point source of pollutants and may have severe impacts on surface water, groundwater, soil and vegetation. In cold climates, de-icing salt is one such pollutant that may cause increased chloride concentrations and induce other effects on the environment. READ MORE

3. Road traffic metals : sources and emissions
Abstract : As the environmental regulations and technical progress have forced the factories’ old “end of pipe” solutions to improve, the metal emissions from point sources have decreased. Instead, the diffuse consumption emissions from goods in use now are in focus. READ MORE

4. Modelling the impacts of deicing salt on soil water in a roadside environment
Abstract : This study tested a dynamic modelling approach based on salt application, meteorological data and generic descriptions of hydrogeological environments for describing the spread of deicing salt to the surroundings and the corresponding increase in chloride storage in soil. Both the amount of chloride storage and the annual variation pattern were significantly altered due to deicing salt application and spread to the roadside environment. READ MORE

5. The accessibility and chemical activity of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in soil
Abstract : This thesis proposes the use of two concepts: accessibility and chemical activity. Accessibility describes the mass quantity of PAHs that is or can become available within a given time span and under given conditions. READ MORE
