1. Cadmium Free Buffer Layers and the Influence of their Material Properties on the Performance of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 Solar Cells
Abstract : CdS is conventionally used as a buffer layer in Cu(In,Ga)Se2, CIGS, solar cells. The aim of this thesis is to substitute CdS with cadmium-free, more transparent and environmentally benign alternative buffer layers and to analyze how the material properties of alternative layers affect the solar cell performance. 2. Hidden Diversity Revealed : Genomic, Transcriptomic and Functional Studies of Diplomonads
Abstract : The diplomonads are a diverse group of eukaryotic microbes found in oxygen limited environments such as the intestine of animals were they may cause severe disease. Among them, the prominent human parasite Giardia intestinalis non-invasively colonizes the small intestine of humans and animals where it induces the gastrointestinal disease giardiasis. READ MORE

3. Pathogenesis and Cell Biology of the Salmon Parasite Spironucleus salmonicida
Abstract : Spironucleus species are classified as diplomonad organisms, diverse eukaryotic flagellates found in oxygen-deprived environments. Members of Spironucleus are parasitic and can infect a variety of hosts, such as mice and birds, while the majority are found to infect fish. READ MORE

4. Design, expression, and analysis of antibody-based blood-brain barrier shuttles
Abstract : Antibody therapeutics, with their strong and highly selective target binding, are now used to treat various diseases. However, to enable their use to treat brain disorders, they must be delivered across the blood-brain barrier (BBB), as without active transport, only around 0.01% of intravenously injected doses reach the brain. 5. Search for Neutrinos from Gamma-ray Bursts using the IceCube Neutrino Observatory
Abstract : Gamma ray bursts (GRBs) are short bursts of high energy γ-radiation and are among some of the most energetic phenomena in the universe. GRBs have three distinct emission phases: the prompt phase with high-energy γ-rays, the precursor phase which is the time interval before the prompt phase and is reported to have an additional smaller burst for some GRBs, and the afterglow phase which is the time interval after the prompt phase with observations for electromagnetic radiation across a large wavelength range reported for many GRBs.
