    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Colorectal cancer; Risk factors; Cancer epidemiology; Endoscopy general; Health economy; Cancer prevention; Hereditary colorectal; Surveillance colonoscopy; Cancer Epidemiology; cancerepidemiologi; Genetics; genetik; Surgery; kirurgi; Oncology; onkologi;

    Abstract : BackgroundColorectal cancer (CRC) – i.e., cancer in the colon or rectum – is one of the most common cancers both globally and in Sweden. The risk for CRC is mainly related to age, heredity, and life-style risk factors. READ MORE

  2. 2. Nature and Culture in Prehistoric Amazonia : Using G.I.S. to reconstruct ancient ethnogenetic processes from archaeology, linguistics, geography, and ethnohistory

    Author : Love Eriksen; Humanekologi; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Amazonia; archaeology; linguistics; anthropology; geography; ethnohistory; Arawak; GIS; ethnogenesis; terra preta; pre-Columbian; ethnicity; regional exchange system; material culture;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the socio-cultural and linguistic development of pre-Columbian Amazonia, with a particular focus on the period between 500 BC and AD 1500. In assembling and analyzing data from archaeology, linguistics, ethnohistory, ethnography, and geography in a Geographical Information System (G.I.S. READ MORE

  3. 3. Experimental and Modelling Studies on the Spreading of Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids in Heterogeneous Media

    Author : Fritjof Fagerlund; Auli Niemi; Tissa Illangasekare; Karsten Jensen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Hydrology; NAPL; Multi-phase flow; Modelling; Experiment design; Heterogeneity; Constitutive relations; Multi-constituent contaminants; Capillary pressure; Relative permeability; Hysteresis; Hydrologi;

    Abstract : Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (NAPLs) include commonly occurring organic contaminants such as gasoline, diesel fuel and chlorinated solvents. When released to subsurface environments their spreading is a complex process of multi-component, multi-phase flow. READ MORE

  4. 4. Organocatalytic Acylation for the Kinetic Resolution of Secondary Aryl Alcohols : Synthetic Applications and Mechanistic Studies

    Author : Laura Mesas Sánchez; Peter Dinér; Pavel Kočovský; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kinetic resolution; organocatalysis; secondary alcohols; reaction progress kinetic analysis; Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot organisk kemi;

    Abstract : The research described in this thesis focuses on the catalytic acylative kinetic resolution (KR) of aromatic secondary alcohols, using a planar-chiral 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine (DMAP) organocatalyst.In the first part of this thesis, the substrate scope of the above mentioned process was expanded to aromatic secondary alcohols that contain an extra functional group in the alkyl moiety, such as 1,2-azido alcohols, 2-hydroxy-2-aryl-ethylphosphonates and 2-hydroxy-2-aryl esters. 5. 5. The Lure of Origins : An Inquiry into Human-Environmental Relations, Focused on the ”Neolithization” of Sweden

    Author : Per Johansson; Humanekologi; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Neolithization; Origins research; Organism concept; Artifact concept; Person concept; Ecological relations; Human-environment relations; Human ecology; Umwelt concept; Symbolism; Archaeology; Tim Ingold; Early Neolithic in Sweden; Cultural anthropology; ethnology; Arkeologi; Kulturantropologi; etnologi;

    Abstract : The purpose of this dissertation is to contribute to the discussion of the deeper meaning, in our contemporary context, of the ”neolithization” of Sweden. The basis for the investigation is twofold: * a critical examination of recent research reports dealing mostly with the Early Neolithic of (Middle) Sweden which shows, inter alia, that ”agriculture” was of marginal importance for a very long time from about 4000 BC onwards, while, at the same time, the idea of ”the transition to farming” dominates discourse.
