  1. 1. Nanoparticle assisted tribofilm formation and material transfer studied with SEM and TEM

    Author : István Zoltán Jenei; Stefan Csillag; Urban Wiklund; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; WS2 inorganic fullerene-like nanoparticles; lubrication; tribofilm; SEM; TEM; EELS; EDS; coating; surface analysis; friction; wear; titanium; material transfer; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The discovery and subsequent synthesis of metal containing fullerenes- IFS (Inorganic Fullerene-like Structures) by R. Tenne et al. has generated considerable scientific interest with great potential impact in many industrial application areas such as lubrication. READ MORE

  2. 2. Synthesis of Transition Metal Aluminides from Elemental Powder Mixtures

    Author : Hossein Sina; Materialteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Aluminides; Intermetallics; Powder Metallurgy; Reactive Sintering; Combustion Synthesis; Thermal Analysis; DSC; Onset temperature; Phase evolution; SEM; EDS; XRD;

    Abstract : Structural components such as those used in gas turbines for energy conversion applications, are subjected to high loads at elevated temperatures. In order to ensure that the components survive under these conditions for a sufficiently long time, it is imperative to select materials with good high temperature properties like strength and corrosion resistance. 3. 3. Corrosion of painted galvanized steel pretreated with Zr-based thin films

    Author : Konrad Tarka; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HDG; cyclic corrosion test; SEM; EDS; XRD; Atmospheric corrosion;

    Abstract : For decades, phosphating has been considered state of the art for pretreating car bodies in order to promote corrosion resistance and paint adhesion. Although it offers excellent corrosion protection, the phosphating process has drawbacks. READ MORE

  4. 4. Characterisation of Nickel-Based Superalloys Manufactued by Electron Beam Melting

    Author : Annika Strondl; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEM; electron beam melting; APFIM; EBSD; XRD; DTA; nickel-based superalloys; SEM; additive manufacturing; EDS;

    Abstract : Nickel-based superalloys have been manufactured by electron beam melting (EBM). EBM is an additive manufacturing process for direct production of metal parts. The part is build up by successive melting of metal powder layers in a vacuum chamber using electron beam. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Influence of Water Vapour on the Oxidation Behaviour of High-temperature Materials Microstructure investigation using analytical electron microscopy

    Author : Jun Eu Tang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEM; EDS; SEM; oxidation; microstructure; water vapour; stainless steel; vaporisation; FIB;

    Abstract : This thesis covers the analytical electron microscopy work carried out on samples exposed to high-temperature oxidation in O2 atmospheres with the intention of investigating the effect of oxygen and water vapour. SEM/EDS, TEM/EDS and diffraction techniques, complemented by FIB precision milling, were employed to characterise the formed oxide scales as well as the material directly under the scale in order to understand the mechanisms that influence the corrosion process.
