  1. 11. Miniaturized, Membrane-Based and Environmentally Green Sample Preparation Systems: Applications for Biological and Environmental Aqueous Samples

    Author : Thaer Barri; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Free concentration; Exhustive extraction; Microporous membrane liquid-liqid extraction; Miniaturization; Supported liquid membrane extraction; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Contemporary advancements in miniaturization of analytical systems have advantageously fostered development, automation, and hyphenation of a variety of sample preparation techniques. Among several downscaled extraction designs, porous synthetic polymeric membranes (such as flat sheet (FS) or hollow fiber (HF)) have been utilized for membrane-based extraction, separating two aqueous phases (as in supported liquid membrane (SLM) extraction or one aqueous phase and another organic phase (as in microporous membrane liquid-liquid extraction (MMLLE)). 2. 12. Processing–Structure–Properties Relationship in Metal Additive Manufacturing

    Author : Victor Pacheco; Martin Sahlberg; Ulf Jansson; Premysl Beran; Joe Kelleher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; additive manufacturing; selective laser melting; preferential orientation; neutron imaging; metallic glasses;

    Abstract : The last three decades have seen the transition of additive manufacturing, from applications exclusively in rapid-prototyping to an emerging production method in the manufacturing industry that is rapidly gaining more relevance. Within additive manufacturing methods, selective laser melting (SLM) is one of the most widely used and mature technologies and is the focus of this thesis. 3. 13. Nematic Liquid Crystal Spatial Light Modulators for Laser Beam Steering

    Author : Emil Hällstig; Mikael Lindgren; Lars Sjöqvist; William Crossland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; spatial light modulator; liquid crystal; beam steering; tracking; phase modulation; fringing field; director distribution; finite-difference time-domain; polarization; temporal properties; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Laser beam control is important in many applications. Phase modulating spatial light modulators (SLMs) can be used to electronically alter the phase distribution of an optical wave-front and thus change the direction and shape of a laser beam. READ MORE

  4. 14. Advances in Holographic Optical Trapping

    Author : Martin Persson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Optical tweezers; Holographic optical trapping; Optical force measurement; Spatial light modulators; Holographic beam steering; Liquid crystals;

    Abstract : Holographic optical trapping (HOT) is a technique for non-invasive dynamic anipulation of multiple microscopic objects, which has been used for many applications in the life sciences during the past decade. The technique uses holographic beam steering with a spatial light modulator (SLM) to direct light to the desired positions of optical traps. READ MORE

  5. 15. Tailoring structure and morphology during additive manufacturing of metallic components

    Author : Jithin James Marattukalam; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Ulf Jansson; Martin Sahlberg; Lars Nyborg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Selective laser melting; process parameters; scanning methodologies; AMLOYZR01; bulk metallic glass; 316L SS; grain orientation;

    Abstract : The work described in this thesis explores the use of laser process parameters to functionalize the material properties by the control of microstructure and optimization of morphology in components by selective laser melting. The microstructure in amorphous and crystalline metallic alloy systems is influenced by changing the laser power density and scanning strategies respectively. READ MORE
