  1. 1. Substrate specificity of protein kinases studied with synthetic peptides

    Author : Reet Toomik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; protein kinase A; protein kinase C; substrate; peptide; specificity; stereospecificity; assay; SPOTS peptides; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis concentrates on the substrate specificities of protein kinases A and C (PKA, PKC). Synthetic peptides are used for that purpose, both in soluble and cellulose membrane-bound form. The, stereospecificity of both protein kinases was studied with D-amino acid containing synthetic peptides. READ MORE

  2. 2. Interfacing HPLC with MALDI- and ESI-MS for Automated High Sensitivity Analysis of Proteins and Peptides

    Author : Tasso Miliotis; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; automated; phosphorylation; ZAP-70; peptides; proteins; comprehensive; multidimensional; two-dimensional; piezoelectric; microdispenser; flow-through; ESI-MS MS; Capillary HPLC; MALDI-TOF MS; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The research described in this thesis has an interdisciplinary approach dealing with chemical, biological, and technical issues. One objective was to interface miniaturized liquid chromatography (LC) to mass spectrometry, i.e. MALDI-TOF MS and ESI-MS, in an unattended mode for high sensitivity determination of proteins and peptides. 3. 3. Improved Techniques for Protein Analysis Focusing on Membrane Proteins and Hydrophobic Peptides

    Author : Theres Redeby; Åsa Emmer; Jonas ergquist; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Integral membrane proteins; Hydrophobic peptides; Sample handling; MALDI-TOF-MS; Structured sample support; CE; fraction collection; microchannel; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the vital cell functions performed by integral membrane proteins (IMPs) are briefly discussed. Such proteins are under-represented in most protein studies due to the hydrophobic nature of IMPs, which seriously complicate their solubilization, sample handling, preparation, separation and analysis. 4. 4. Sample preparation and mass spectrometry in proteome studies

    Author : Daniel Hirschberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Proteome studies aim to link gene to function. Instead of screening for function in a specific protein as in classical protein chemistry, proteins are now screened against a specific phenotype, disease or metabolic state. READ MORE

  5. 5. Fluorescent quantum dots and graphene-based sensors for forensic applications

    Author : Johnny Jussi; Ying Fu; Simon Dunne; Qin Wang; Ingemar Petermann; Xin Wang; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Graphene; Quantum Dots; Blood; Forensics; Drugs; Biologisk fysik; Biological Physics;

    Abstract : A key emerging concept within the forensic sciences today areportable measurementdevices, where a much more efficient usage of the resources involved with crime-solving is possible if confirmatory measurements can be realised directly at a crimescene with such devices. Today, the majority of the presently used methods duringcriminal investigation at a crime scene involves measurements of a presumptivenature, which is a vital tool as it enables the screening of samples.
