  1. 1. The Role of Stat1 in Retinoic Acid-induced Myelomonocytic Differentiation of Human Leukemia Cells

    Author : Anna Dimberg; Ivo Touw; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Stat1; ATRA; U-937; myeloid; differentiation; cell cycle; growth arrest; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA), a biologically active metabolite of vitamin A, is a powerful inducer of terminal differentiation and growth arrest of several myeloid cell lines in vitro. Although the efficacy of ATRA as an anti-cancer drug has been demonstrated by the successful treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), knowledge concerning the molecular mechanisms directing ATRA-induced differentiation and cell cycle arrest of myeloid cells is lacking. 2. 2. Apoptosis Regulation in Multiple Myeloma

    Author : Lina Dimberg; Helena Jernberg Wiklund; Kenneth Nilsson; Marie Arsenian Henriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biomedicine; multiple myeloma; apoptosis; survival; IFN; Stat1; Stat3; IGF-I; RTK inhibitor; PPP; IAP; Fas CD95; dexamethasone; Biomedicin;

    Abstract : Multiple myeloma (MM) is a virtually incurable B cell malignancy of the bone marrow. One important part of tumor progression and an obstacle for successful therapy is resistance to apoptosis. To combat this resistance, the mechanisms of apoptosis and survival in MM must be better defined. READ MORE

  3. 3. Signal Transduction in Malignant Cells – Transformation, Activation and Differentiation

    Author : Karin Kårehed; Fredrik Öberg; Jan-Ingvar Jönsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Molecular medicine; transformation; PDGF; PI3K; Rho-GTPase; U-937; FcγRI; macrophage; Stat1; PKR; NFκB; ATRA; differentiation; Molekylärmedicin; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; Pathology; Patologi;

    Abstract : All aspects of cell life are regulated by signal transduction mechanisms. This thesis describes the regulatory roles of a few key signal transduction molecules involved in three major biological responses. READ MORE

  4. 4. Functional genetic studies of Psoriasin: a potential biomarker for breast cancer with a poor prognosis

    Author : Stina Petersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Psoriasin; Breast cancer; Reactive oxidant species; NF-κB; IFNγ; STAT1; ICAM-1; MUC1; CD24;

    Abstract : Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women. There is a high degree of heterogeneity in breast tumours and they can be divided into subtypes that have different expression pattern and clinical outcome. Ductal Carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is regarded as a precursor of invasive ductal breast cancer. READ MORE

  5. 5. The role of interferons in the resistance to infection with Chlamydia pneumoniae

    Author : Christian Trumstedt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Chlamydia pneumoniae is an obligate intracellular bacterial pathogen that infects the respiratory tract in human. IFN-gamma is an essential cytokine for the immune response triggered to limit infection with C. pneumoniae. C. READ MORE
