  1. 1. Late Ordovician-Early Silurian facies development and stratigraphy of Jämtland, central Sweden

    Author : Peter Dahlqvist; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biostratigraphy; Sedimentology; Stratigrafi; Stratigraphy; Paleontologi; Palaeontology; Jämtland; provenance; brachiopods; conodonts; Hirnantian; Silurian; Ordovician; glaciation; eustasy; Sedimentologi; sedimentology;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on studies of Lower Palaeozoic sedimentary successions within the central Scandinavian Caledonides. These deposits have been transported by considerable nappe displacement (several kilometres), and are today relatively isolated from the nearest coeval outcrops (Dalarna 250 km, Oslo Region 350 km). 2. 2. Quaternary paleoceanography of the Arctic Ocean : A study of sediment stratigraphy and physical properties

    Author : Emma Sellén; Martin Jakobsson; Jan Backman; Dorthe Klitgaard-Kristensen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic Ocean; sedimentology; Quaternary; stratigraphy; physical properties; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi; Sedimentology; Sedimentologi; Marine Geoscience; marin geovetenskap;

    Abstract : A Quaternary perspective on the paleoceanographic evolution of the central Arctic Ocean has been obtained in this PhD thesis by studying sediment cores from all of the Arctic’s major submarine ridges and plateaus. The included cores were mainly recovered during the Healy-Oden Trans-Arctic expedition in 2005 and the Lomonosov Ridge off Greenland expedition in 2007. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sedimentology and Geomorphology of Glacial Landforms in Southern Sweden : Studying the Landscape of a Melting Ice Sheet

    Author : Gustaf Peterson Becher; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Glacial geology; Geomorphology; Sedimentology; Glaciology; Tunnel-valley; Glaciofluvial meltwater corridor; Murtoo; Småland;

    Abstract : Ice sheets are disintegrating due to global warming. One factor controlling ice-sheet behavior is the processes active beneath the ice sheet. In particular, processes connected to glacial meltwater drainage are essential to understand ice-sheets behavior in a warming climate. READ MORE

  4. 4. Marginal behaviour of the last Scandinavian Ice Sheet during its final termination and deglaciation over Northeastern Germany

    Author : Joachim Albrecht; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; climatology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Physical geography; Marginal dome; Deglaciation; Clast lithology; Clast fabric; Germany; Pomeranian; Weichselian; Lithostratigraphy; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; Sedimentology; Sedimentologi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents results from studies on geomorphology, lithostratigraphy and ice flow patterns during the final termination and deglaciation of the last Scandinavian Ice Sheet in NE Germany. Ice flow patterns derived from till fabrics and glaciotectonical data indicate that short-lived marginal domes had formed during the advance and the retreat of the last Scandinavian Ice Sheet in NE Germany. 5. 5. Glacial geology and palaeo-ice dynamics of two ice-sheet margins, Taymyr Peninsula, Siberia and Jameson Land, East Greenland

    Author : Helena Alexanderson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ice dynamics; Pleistocene; Arctic Siberia; East Greenland; Sedimentology; Physical geography; Sedimentologi; pedology; geomorphology; klimatologi; kartografi; marklära; geomorfologi; cartography; Fysisk geografi; ice-marginal processes; glacial history; climatology;

    Abstract : The North Taymyr ice-marginal zone (NTZ) on the Taymyr Peninsula, Arctic Siberia and the Ugleelv Valley on Jameson Land, East Greenland, have been investigated with the aim of reconstructing the glacial history, including depositional processes and environments. Geomorphological, sedimentological, stratigraphical and remote sensing methods have been combined to give a comprehensive view of developments in the two areas. READ MORE
