  1. 1. Sensory quality of pork : Influences of rearing system, feed, genotype, and sex

    Author : Anette Jonsäll; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Domestic sciences; Sensory analysis; rearing system; genotype; sex; feed; pig; food quality; taste; muscle; Hushållsvetenskap; Domestic science and nutrition; Hushålls- och kostvetenskap;

    Abstract : Hampshire crosses of different genotype and sex were used to investigate the effects of rearing system, feed and handling on sensory quality, consumer preference and cooking loss. A selected and trained panel carried out descriptive tests. Two preference tests were carrieout by, in each case, 200 consumers. READ MORE

  2. 2. Drosophila Sensory Neuroethology

    Author : Suzan Mansourian; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila melanogaster; Vinegar Fly; olfactory system; hygrosensation; receptor; ancestral habitat;

    Abstract : Animals, like humans, need to perceive their surroundings via their senses in order to make sensible behavioral decisions, reproduce successfully, and survive. Animals are equipped with audition, vision, thermosensation, hygrosensation, mechanosensation, magnetoception, gustation, and olfaction, which detects physical and chemical changes in their habitats. 3. 3. The sensory morphology of insect pollinators : From structure to behaviour and ecology

    Author : Zahra Moradinour; Emily Baird; Karl Gotthard; Karin Nordstrom; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Insect pollinators; butterfly; bumblebee; sensory system; developmental temperature; light habitat; Functional Zoomorphology; funktionell zoomorfologi;

    Abstract : Insect pollinators play an important role in balancing our ecosystems and maintaining plant and food diversity. Due to anthropogenic activities such as global warming, habitat loss and degradation, pesticides, and pathogens, many pollinator populations have been undergoing drastic declines in recent decades. 4. 4. The nervous system of box jellyfish: A surprisingly complex system in a simple animal

    Author : Linda Parkefelt; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; proliferating cell nuclear antigen; arginine vasotocin; RFamide; immunofluorescence; visual system; nervous system; Tripedalia cystophora; Cnidaria; box jellyfish;

    Abstract : The four surprisingly complex visual sensory organs of cubomedusae, the rhopalia, contain each six eyes of four morphologically different types, two of which are camera-type eyes. This means that the evolutionary basal nervous system of cubomedusae must process the visual signals received from a total of 24 rhopalial eyes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Sensory quality of tomato, carrot and wheat : Influences of growing systems

    Author : Åsa Haglund; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : The sensory variation in products, conventionally and ecologically grown has been described and the effect of sensory training on the reliability of the assessors has been evaluated.Ecologically grown tomatoes scored higher for sweetness while conventionally grown tomatoes scored higher for firmness.
