  1. 1. Aerosol Metal Nanoparticles and their Role in Particle-Assisted Growth of III–V Nanowires

    Author : Robert Hallberg; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aerosol formation; III–V semiconductor materials; catalyst particles; Palladium nanoparticles; Gold nanoparticles; Spark discharge generation; MOVPE; MOCVD; Transmission electron microscopy TEM ; Phase stability; Nanoparticle deposition; Nanoparticle generation; nanoparticles characterization; Nanowire NW ; Nanowire growth;

    Abstract : Semiconductor nanowires have properties that make them potentially useful for applications in future electronic, photovoltaic, and optoelectronic devices. A powerful nanowire fabrication technique is the use of a nanoparticle as a preferential nucleation site, from which a nanowire grows. READ MORE

  2. 2. Kinetic Measurements Using Nanoplasmonic Sensing

    Author : Markus Schwind; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sn Nanoparticles; Sensing; Localized Surface Plasmon Resonances; Particle Plasmon; Metal Oxidation; Metal Corrosion; Solid-Liquid Phase Transition; Kinetics; Al Nanoparticles;

    Abstract : In this thesis the nanoplasmonic sensing technique was used to study kinetics of (i) the oxidation of Al nanoparticles in air and water and (ii) the solid-liquid phase transition in Sn nanoparticles. The nanoplasmonic sensing technique detects changes of the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) in metal nanoparticles. READ MORE

  3. 3. Potential of Organosolv Lignin Nanoparticles as a Sustainable Flotation Reagent : Towards a Low-Carbon Footprint Mining Industry

    Author : Katerina Hruzova; Ulrika Rova; Saija Luukkanen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Organosolv lignin particles; Nanoparticles; Flotation reagent; Copper recovery; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Abstract : The green transition is driving a steep increase in the demand for minerals, which has put the focus on more responsible and sustainable mining practices as there is a growing pressure on mining operations to minimise their environmental footprint, mitigate risks in neighbouring communities, and decrease the consumption of natural resources. In 2022, mineral froth flotation was used to recover 18 million tonnes of copper from copper ore, accounting for 80% of total copper mine output. READ MORE

  4. 4. Nanoplasmonic Sensing for Materials Science

    Author : Markus Schwind; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Freezing Melting Phase Transition; Localized Surface Plasmon Resonances; Optical Spectroscopy; Nanoparticles; Aluminum; Copper; Thin Films; Metal Oxidation and Corrosion; Quartz Crystal Microbalance with Dissipation Monitoring; Tin;

    Abstract : With the rising importance of nanoscience and nanotechnology, there is a need for new sensitive and easy-to-use characterization techniques able to follow processes at the nanoscale. In this thesis different aspects of nanoplasmonic sensing for studying materials science processes at the nanoscale are demonstrated and discussed for the following model systems: oxidation/corrosion of Al and Cu and the solid-liquid phase transition of Sn. Abstract : Saving energy in buildings is of great importance because about 30 to 40 % of the energy in the world is used in buildings. An electrochromic window (ECW), which makes it possible to regulate the inflow of visible light and solar energy into buildings, is a promising technology providing a reduction in energy consumption in buildings along with indoor comfort.
