    Abstract : Over 60% of global greenhouse gas emissions derive from household consumption patterns. To reach the 1.5-degree target set in the Paris Agreement, new interventions to influence household behaviours are needed. This thesis examined two areas, household electricity consumption and waste sorting, where behaviour plays a large role. READ MORE

  2. 2. Developing Theoretical and Empirical Definitions of Safety Problems in Driving Suitable for Active Safety Function Evaluation

    Author : Mikael Ljung Aust; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; avoidance; driver behaviour; pre-crash scenarios; crash causation; adaptation; motivation; conceptual framework; active safety functions;

    Abstract : In passive safety, the requirement specifications used for evaluation of protective functions are both standardised and specified at a high level of detail regarding evaluation scenario definition, performance metrics and pass/fail criteria. For active safety, while several propositions for evaluation scenarios have been made, neither these, nor performance metrics and pass/fail criteria have yet reached a similar level of detail and standardisation. 3. 3. Saving energy at sea: seafarers’ adoption, appropriation and enactment of technologies supporting energy efficiency

    Author : Martin Viktorelius; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; energy performance monitoring; shipping; seafarer.; workplace studies; ethnography; energy efficiency; maritime human factors; digitalization; practice-based; automation; sociomaterial;

    Abstract : The shipping industry is currently facing a major challenge related to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. New regulations and ambitious international goals that aim at mitigating carbon-based emissions with 50 %, demands on profitability, along with a growing awareness about the climate change, has prompted the maritime sector to increasingly focus on how to improve energy efficiency and reduce fuel consumption in ship operations. 4. 4. Understanding Individuals' Learning and Decision Processes in a Changing Environment by Using Panel Data

    Author : Nursitihazlin Ahmad Termida; Yusak Susilo; Joel Franklin; Kiron Chatterjee; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Behavioural responses; seasons; panel data; travel diary; activity-travel pattern; theory of planned behaviour; space-time constraint; changing environment; tram; Stockholm; Transportvetenskap; Transport Science;

    Abstract : When a new transport service is introduced, people have to learn and familiarize themselves with the new service before they decide to adopt it. These processes are developed over time, thus produce dynamics in individuals’ behavioural responses towards the service. This affects the demand of the new service, thus affect revenues. READ MORE

  5. 5. A Needs-Based Approach towards Fostering Long-term Engagement with Energy Feedback among Local Residents

    Author : Aram Mäkivierikko; Fredrik Gröndahl; Olga Kordas; Hossein Shahrokni; Paula M. Bögel; Cristian M Bogdan; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Energy feedback; Consumer engagement; Energy behaviour; Social networks; Smart grids; Design principles; Energiåterkoppling; konsumentengagemang; Energibeteende; Sociala nätverk; Smarta elnät; Designprinciper; Industrial Ecology; Industriell ekologi;

    Abstract : In order to reach the current climate goals, energy consumption needs to decrease in all sectors, including households, which produce 20% of the European emissions. However, it is difficult to increase residents’ engagement in their household electricity consumption as it is an ‘invisible’ form of energy, the monetary incentives are often too small and environmental incentives are not very effective.
