  1. 1. The role of platelets in whole blood coagulation

    Author : Sofia Ramström; Nils Olav Solum; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The body's first line of defence against bleeding is the platelets, small cell fragments with multiple roles in the coagulation process. The platelets are patrolling our blood vessels, looking for damage in the endothelial cell layer, to which they attach and transform, recruit more platelets and assemble the plasma coagulation proteases on their surfaces. 2. 2. Analysis of new biomarkers and their kinetics in connection with ST-elevation myocardial infarction and percutaneous coronary intervention

    Author : Rahel Befekadu Wodajo; Sofia Ramström; Magnus Grenegård; Anders Larsson; Dick Wågsäter; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; STEMI; PTX3; sTNFR1; sTNFR2; Cathepsin S; MASP-1 AT MASP-1 C1-INH; MASP-2 AT; MASP-2 C1-INH;

    Abstract : This thesis studies different biomarkers in a cohort of patients suffering from ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) who underwent Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in Örebro in 2011-2012. Blood samples were collected at three time points, at the arrival at the hospital, 1-3 days after PCI and for a smaller group of patients also 3 months after PCI. READ MORE

  3. 3. Tissue Factor regulation, signaling and functions beyond coagulation with a focus on diabetes

    Author : Desireé Edén; Agneta Siegbahn; Sofia Ramström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Tissue factor; diabetes; cell signaling; coagulation; beta cells; adipocytes; apoptosis; lipolysis; micro RNA; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Background: Tissue factor (TF) is a 47 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein best known for initiating the coagulation cascade upon binding of its ligand FVIIa. Apart from its physiological role in coagulation, TF and TF/FVIIa signaling has proved to be involved in diseases such as diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular diseases. READ MORE

  4. 4. Formation and Relevance of Platelet Subpopulations

    Author : Anna Södergren; Sofia Ramström; Karin Öllinger; Riitta Lassila; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Platelets are important players in the hemostatic system, acting as guardians of vessel integrity. When they come across a breach in the vessel wall, they quickly adhere to the damaged surface, secrete activating and adhesive compounds from their secretory granules, recruit additional platelets into a growing platelet plug and support the action of the coagulation system. 5. 5. Protamine, Platelet Function and Coagulation in Cardiac Surgery

    Author : Mattias Törnudd; Sören Berg; John-Peder Escobar Kvitting; Sofia Ramström; Joakim Alfredsson; Ulf Schött; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiopulmonary bypass; Protamine; Platelet function; Coagulation;

    Abstract : Bleeding is a serious and common complication in cardiac surgery. Complicated surgery together with alterations in hemostatic conditions from the use of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), presents challenges in how to preserve hemostasis in the patient.   CPB is thought to affect platelet function and coagulation in many ways.
