  1. 21. Methodology for high-throughput production of soluble recombinant proteins in Escherichia coli

    Author : Katrin Markland; Gen Larsson; Pär Nordlund; Jenny Ottosson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Escherichia coli; high-throughput methodology; recombinant protein production; solubility; productivity; quality; cultivation technology; parallel reactors; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : The aim of this work was to investigate and determine central parameters that can be used to control and increase the solubility, quality and productivity of recombinant proteins. These central parameters should be applicable under the constraints of high-throughput protein production in Escherichia coli. READ MORE

  2. 22. Physical properties and crystallization of theophylline co-crystals

    Author : Shuo Zhang; Åke Rasmuson; Per Svensson; Mårten Behm; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Theophylline; oxalic acid; glutaric acid; maleic acid; co-crystal; decomposition temperature; melting temperature; solubility; crystallization; Molecular transport processes in chemical process engineering; Molekylära transportprocesser i kemisk processteknik;

    Abstract : This work focuses on the physical properties and crystallization of theophyline co-crystals. Co-crystals of theophylline with oxalic acid, glutaric acid and maleic acid have been investigated. The DSC curves of these co-crystals show that their first endothermic peaks are all lower than the melting temperature of theophylline. READ MORE

  3. 23. Wood Hemicelluloses - Fundamental Insights on Biological and Technical Properties

    Author : Jennie Berglund; Mikael Lindström; Gunnar Henriksson; Francisco Vilaplana; Jakob Wohlert; Martin Lawoko; Maija Tenkanen; KTH; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; hemicellulose; wood; glucomannan; xylan; structure; acetylation; flexibility; solubility; interaction with cellulose; stability.; hemicellulosa; trä; glukomannan; xylan; struktur; acetylering; flexibilitet; löslighet; interaktion med cellulosa; stabilitet.; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : Hemicelluloses are a group of heterogeneous polysaccharides representing around 30 % of wood where the dominating types are xylans, glucomannans and xyloglucans. Hemicelluloses complex molecular structure makes it difficult to understand the relationship between structure and properties entirely, and their biological role is not yet fully verified. READ MORE

  4. 24. Drowning-out crystallisation of benzoic acid : Influence of processing conditions and solvent composition on crystal size and shape

    Author : Xiomara Holmbäck; KTH; []
    Keywords : solvent effect; drowning-out; crystallization; benzoic acid; solubility; crystal habit; crystal growth; interfacial energy; growth mechanism;

    Abstract : The aim of the present investigation is to increase theunderstanding of the role played by the solvent in inhibitingor enhancing crystal growth. Drowning-out crystallizationexperiments has been performed by the controlled addition ofwater or ethanol water mixtures to a saturated solution ofbenzoic acid in ethanol-water mixtures. READ MORE

  5. 25. Novel and refined small-scale approaches to determine the intrinsic dissolution rate of drugs

    Author : Sara B. E. Andersson; Göran Alderborn; Göran Frenning; Peter Langguth; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dissolution; intrinsic dissolution rate; poorly water-soluble compounds; single particle dissolution; solubility; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Abstract : Many drugs are administered as crystalline particles compressed into tablets and taken orally. When the tablet reaches the gastrointestinal tract, it disintegrates and the drug particles dissolve in the gastrointestinal fluid. The dissolved molecules are absorbed across the intestinal membranes into the bloodstream to reach their target sites. READ MORE
