  1. 1. Synthesis of Non-Natural Aromatic Amino Acids Derivatives Solvent-free reactions-Versatile building blocks-Galectin inhibitors

    Author : Erik Tullberg; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; Multivalent galectin inhibitors; Multifunctional molecules; Amino Acids; Solvent-free reactions;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with three topics concerning the synthesis of non-natural also known as unnatural amino acid derivatives. In the first, solvent-free reaction conditions for the Heck reaction were developed that were superior to previous conditions because the reaction time could be reduced and the work-up procedure simplified. 2. 2. Enzyme substrate solvent interactions : a case study on serine hydrolases

    Author : Linda Fransson; Karl Hult; Jürgen Pleiss; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; lipase; esterase; specificity; Bioengineering; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : Reaction rates and selectivities were measured for transacylation of fatty acid esters in solvents catalysed by Candida antarctica lipase B and by cutinase from Humicola insolens. With these enzymes classical water-based enzymology can be expanded to many different solvents allowing large variations in interaction energies between the enzymes, the substrates and the surrounding. 3. 3. Free-energy studies of ligand-binding affinities

    Author : Vilhelm Ekberg; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; free energy perturbation; drug design; ligand-binding affinity; entropy; molecular mechanics; molecular dynamics;

    Abstract : In drug discovery, it is of utmost importance to accurately calculate the free energies of binding ligands to various protein targets, such as enzymes and receptors. We have assessed and used computational tools for this aim, most of them based on molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. READ MORE

  4. 4. Non-porous membrane extractions in contemporary analysis

    Author : Jan Norberg; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; extracting syringe; micro-porous membrane extraction; supported liquid membrane; solvent free; selectivity; clean-up; enrichment; Sample preparation; automation; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : To meet the desirable characteristic for sample preparation in contemporary, i. e. automation, high enrichment, clean-up, selectivity and essential solvent free techniques, the use of non-porous membrane extraction techniques is addressed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Hydrolases as Catalysts for Green Chemistry and Industrial Applications - Esterase, Lipase and Phytase

    Author : Yasser Gaber; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HPLC-EAT; sustainable environment; mutation; metallo-enzyme; phytate; b-propeller; biodegraqdable; metrics; green chemistry; Novozym 435; CalB; solvent-free; kinetic resolution; Biocatalysis; rational design; PLE; esterase; clopidogrel; enantioselectivity;

    Abstract : The use of enzymes in industrial applications has been recognised for providing clean processes with minimal impact on the environment. This thesis presents studies on engineering of enzymes and enzyme-based processes in the light of green chemistry and environmental sustainability, and focuses on three hydrolases: esterase, lipase and phytase.
