1. Photochemical Surface Functionalization : Synthesis, Nanochemistry and Glycobiological Studies
Abstract : This thesis mainly deals with the development of photochemical approaches to immobilize carbohydrates on surfaces for glycobiological studies. These approaches have been incorporated into a number of state-of-the-art nanobio-platforms, including carbohydrate microarrays, surface plasmon resonance (SPR), quartz crystal microbalance (QCM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and glyconanomaterials. 3. Fast Chemistry by Microwave Heating : First Descriptions of Highly Enantioselective Microwave Protocols for Metal Catalysis; First Descriptions of in-situ Gas Generation for Fast Combinatorial Microwave Chemistry
Abstract : Microwave heating was applied to different palladium-catalyzed allylic substitution reactions. The use of various nucleophiles demonstrated C-, N-, O- and S- nucleophilicity. High yields and stereopurities of the corresponding alkyls, amides, ethers and sulfones were afforded after only 30 – 120 s of heating. READ MORE

4. The Use of N,P-Iridium and N,P-Palladium Complexes in Asymmetric Synthesis
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns asymmetric catalysis using chiral N,P-ligands and iridium or palladium transition metals. The first part (Chapters 2 and 3) highlights the N,P-iridium catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of 1,4-cyclohexadienes having functionalized or unfunctionalized substituents, including allylsilane side chains. 5. Metal Mediated Synthesis. Synthetic and Mechanistic Investigations of Conjugate Addition and Reductive Amination
Abstract : The thesis is divided into two separate parts, one treating conjugate addition and the other reductive aminations. The first part of the thesis is concerned with organocopper promoted conjugate addition to .alfa.,. READ MORE
