  1. 1. Partitioning of Drugs and Lignin Precursor Models into Artificial Membranes

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Elisabet Boija; Uppsala universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : Biochemistry; Bilayer disk; Capillary electrophoresis; Detergent; Drug; Electrostatic interaction; Hydrophobic interaction; Immobilized liposome chromatography; Lignin; Lignin precursor model; Liposome; Membrane model; Octanol water partitioning; Partitioning; Phospholipid; Phospholipid bilayer; Sterol; Biokemi;

    Abstract : The main aim of this thesis was to characterize membrane-solute interactions using artificial membranes in immobilized liposome chromatography or capillary electrophoresis. The partitioning of a solute into a cell membrane is an essential step in diffusion across the membrane. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies on sterol 27-hydroxylase (CYP27A1)

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Laboratory Medicine

    Author : Sara von Bahr; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Human sterol 27-hydroxylase (CYP27A1) has been studied in the present thesis with focus on substrate specificity and possible role of the enzyme for prevention of accumulation of cholesterol and cholestanol in tissues. Attempts have been made to evaluate a metabolic pathway to bile acids in human primary hepatocytes that starts with a 27-hydroxylation of cholesterol catalyzed by CYP27A1. READ MORE

  3. 3. Phytosterols. Effect of intake on cholesterol absorption and colorectal cancer risk

    University dissertation from Göteborg

    Author : Lena Normén; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2001]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; phytosterols; phytostanols; soy sterols; sitostanol; ester; gas-liquid chromatography; GLC; cholesterol absorption; sterol excretion; fruit; vegetables; cereals; colon cancer; rectal cancer; dietary fiber;

    Abstract : Phytosterols are lipid components of all food items of plant origin. They are effective in decreasing plasma cholesterol concentrations, but have also been suggested to protect against colorectal cancer. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies on the transcriptional regulation of sterol 12alpha-hydroxylase (CYP8B1)

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Laboratory Sciences and Technology

    Author : Yizeng Yang; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bile acids; CYP8B1; CYP7A1; transcription; nuclear receptor; PPAR-alpha; HNF4-alpha; FTF; SREBP; thyroid hormones.;

    Abstract : The conversion of cholesterol into bile acids is mainly via two pathways, which are initiated by CYP7A1 and CYP27A1 respectedly. CYP8B1, a microsomal P450 cytochrome, hydroxylates of the steroid nucleus at the C-12alpha position to form 7alpha, 12alpha-dihydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one, a facultative precursor of CA. READ MORE
