21. Insights into potato plant immunity reveals Parakletos as a novel ROS suppressor
Abstract : Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is the world's third most commonly grown food crop with very high yield potential. However, its production is hampered by several pathogens, with consequent yield losses. Existing control methods include frequent, costly fungicide applications, and classical breeding is complicated in potato. READ MORE

22. Enzymes in different pathways of bile acid biosynthesis
Abstract : Enzymes catalyzing side chain hydroxylations and dehydrogenation/isomerization in different pathways of bile acid biosynthesis were studied.Pig liver mitochondrial sterol 27-hydroxylase (CYP27A) was found to catalyze 24- and 25-hydroxylation of cholesterol in addition to the known 27-hydroxylation. 23. On Toxicant-Induced Succession in Periphyton Communities: Effects of Single Chemicals and Chemical Mixtures
Abstract : This thesis deals with the effects of single chemicals and chemical mixtures on biological communities. Ecosystems are exposed to complex mixtures of chemicals, and because combination effects can occ... READ MORE

24. Structural Studies of a Xyloglucan Endotransglycosylase from Populus tremula x tremuloides and Three Conserved Hypothetical Proteins from Mycobacterium tuberculosis
Abstract : This thesis describes the structural studies of four different proteins from two organisms. Xyloglucan endotransglycosylases, XETs, are involved in plant cell wall expansion and remodeling by splitting and reconnecting xyloglucan-cellulose crosslinks. The first crystal structure of a XET enzyme has been determined to 1.8 Å. READ MORE

25. Trichoderma viride alamethicin and plant cells - Action, response and resistance
Abstract : Alamethicin is a membrane active peptide secreted from the soil-living fungus Trichoderma viride. When coexisting with T. Viride, plant roots are exposed to alamethicin, which has the ability to elicit formation of volatile compounds involved in pathogen defence. READ MORE
