  1. 1. Platinum(II) and Palladium (II) Complexes with Group 14 and 15 Donor Ligands. Synthesis, Structure and Substitution Mechanisms

    Author : Ola Wendt; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mechanism; kinetics; substitution; platinum; palladium; aryl; silyl; nitrile; triphenylstibine; NMR; IR; Raman; X-ray crystallography; stopped-flow; synthesis; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : The present thesis deals with Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes with group 14 and 15 donor ligands. Such complexes have been prepared and investigated mainly with regard to their ground state structures and the mechanism according to which they undergo substitution. READ MORE

  2. 2. Birds as a Model for Comparative Genomic Studies

    Author : Axel Künstner; Hans Ellegren; Hanna Johannesson; Chris Ponting; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Birds; Selection; Gene expression; Sequence evolution; Next-generation sequencing; Comparative genomics; Molecular evolution; Genomics; Substitution Rates; Non-coding DNA; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär evolution; Biology with specialization in Molecular Evolution;

    Abstract : Comparative genomics provides a tool to investigate large biological datasets, i.e. genomic datasets. In my thesis I focused on inferring patterns of selection in coding and non-coding regions of avian genomes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Reactions of Model and Anticancer Active Platinum(IV/II) Complexes - A Kinetic and Mechanistic Study

    Author : Kelemu Lemma; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Model Pt II complexes; Anticancer active Pt IV compounds; Cisplatin; Rescue agents; L-Ascorbic acid; Thiol; Substitution; Kinetics and mechanism; Electron transfer; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis reductions of model and anticancer active Pt(IV) complexes with thiols and ascorbic acid and substitution reactions of cisplatin and model Pt(II) complexes with S-donor nucleophiles (rescue agents) have been investigated using stopped-flow and UV/VIS spectrophotometry. Glutathione (GSH) reduction of the anticancer active Pt(IV) compounds t- and c-[PtCl4(cha)(NH3)] (cha = cyclohexylamine), t-[PtCl4(thiazole)(NH3)] and c-[PtCl4(NH3)2] at 25 oC was observed to be very fast. 4. 4. Nucleotide Substitution Patterns in Vertebrate Genomes

    Author : Carina Farah Mugal; Hans Ellegren; Ziheng Yang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nucleotide substitutions; mutation rate variation; strand asymmetries; CpG effect; GC-biased gene conversion; codon evolution; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär evolution; Biology with specialization in Molecular Evolution;

    Abstract : The rates and patterns at which nucleotide substitutions occur vary significantly across the genome sequence of vertebrates. A prominent example is the difference in the rate of evolution of functional sequences versus nonfunctional (neutrally evolving) sequences, which is explained by the influence of natural selection on functional sequences. 5. 5. Phylogenetic Support and Chloroplast Genome Evolution in Sileneae (Caryophyllaceae)

    Author : Per Erixon; Bengt Oxelman; Sean Graham; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biology; Phylogenetics; Bayesian inference; Bootstrapping; cpDNA; Sileneae; Interspecific chloroplast recombination; Hybridization; clpP; Positive selection; Extreme substitution rates; Biologi;

    Abstract : Evolutionary biology is dependent on accurate phylogenies. In this thesis two branch support methods, Bayesian posterior probablities and bootstrap frequencies, were evaluated with simulated data and empirical data from the chloroplast genome. READ MORE
