1. Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy Studies at the Air-Liquid Interface
Abstract : In this thesis the structure and hydration of small organic and amphipilic compounds adsorbed at the air-liquid interface, have been studied using the nonlinear optical technique Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy (VSFS). The second order nature of the sum frequency process makes this technique particularly surface sensitive and very suitable for interfacial studies, as molecules at the surface can be distinguished even in the presence of a vast excess of the same molecules in the bulk. 3. Study of polycrystalline gold surfaces by potential-dependent optical sum frequency generation
Abstract : With the increase in demand for renewable energy, the comprehension of chemical processes is essential to improve the design of catalysts in order to achieve better performance. This thesis summarizes the experimental investigation of redox reactions on polycrystalline gold surfaces by combining electrochemistry with operando surface-specific sum frequency generation (SFG) for a wider anodic potential interval than previously studied in acidic aqueous medium (H3PO4, pH 1). 4. Diode laser spectroscopy in extended wavelength ranges
Abstract : Diode laser spectroscopy performed in the ultraviolet, visible and infrared spectral regions is presented. The accessible wavelength range for visible and near-infrared diode lasers is extended by the use of sum- and difference-frequency generation. READ MORE

5. Environmental Monitoring - using diode-laser-based spectroscopic techniques
Abstract : Monitoring of environmental gases is necessary to understand the complex processes governing global warming and the impact of pollutant emissions related to human activity. Diode-laser-based spectroscopic techniques, being robust and affordable, have a great potential to become an industrially well-established technology for environmental sensing. READ MORE
