    Author : Tobias Bergström; Karin Forsberg-Nilsson; Staffan Johansson; Sven Påhlman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neural stem cell; integrins; glioma; PDGF; mast cell; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on neural stem cell (NSC) and glioma biology. I discuss how NSCs interact with extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins in the stem cell niche, and investigate the consequences of deregulated Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) signaling for embryonic NSCs in transgenic mice. Abstract : Neuroblastoma, the most common extracranial solid tumor of childhood, is a heterogeneous tumor. In some patients, the tumor can go into spontaneous regression and disappear whereas other patients have rapidly growing tumors with a poor prognosis. READ MORE

  5. 5. RUNX1/AML1 functions and mechanisms regulating granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor transcription

    Author : Hebin Liu; Sven Påhlman; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : RUNX1 AML1; Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor GM-CSF ; Calcineurin; CaMKII; Ets1; Transforming growth factor-b TGF-b ; Smad3; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) is a multipotent cytokine involved in the production and function of hematopoietic cells, and GM-CSF plays in particular a major role in responses to infection and physiological and pathological inflammatory processes. GM-CSF is produced in many cell types, and increases in the intracellular Ca2+ concentration are, like in many other systems, of major importance in the intracellular signaling that determines GM-CSF expression after receptor stimulation of the cells.
