1. Semi-Markov Models for Insurance and Option Rewards
Abstract : This thesis presents studies of semi-Markov models for insurance and option rewards. The thesis consists of the introduction and six papers. The introduction presents the results of the thesis in an informal way.In paper A, a general semi-Markov reward model is presented. READ MORE

2. Rainflow Analysis of Switching Markov Loads
Abstract : Rainflow cycles are often used in fatigue analysis of materials for describing the variability of applied loads. Therefore, an important characteristic of a random load process is the intensity of rainflow cycles, also called the expected rainflow matrix (RFM), which can be used for evaluation of the fatigue life. 3. Tools for Autonomous Process Control
Abstract : There is an ongoing trend towards higher automation level in process control systems. The purpose of a plant is to manufacture some product at a high production rate with a consistent quality, while minimizing the use of resources in terms of energy consumption, raw material and labor. 4. Resonant switching and vortex dynamics in spin-flop bi-layers
Abstract : This thesis is a study of the static and dynamic behavior of the magne-tization in spin-flop bi-layers, which consist of two soft ferromagnetic layerscoupled by dipolar forces through a thin nonmagnetic spacer. The focus ofthe work is three fold: collective spin dynamics in the anti-parallel groundstate; resonant switching in the presence of thermal agitation; and static anddynamic behavior of the system in the vortex-pair state, with a particularemphasis on the interlayer core-core interaction. 5. Shaping Future Opportunities for Biomass Gasification - The Role of Integration
Abstract : A considerable number of studies indicate that biofuels produced from lignocellulosic biomass will most probably play a significant role in achieving the climate goals stated in the Paris agreement. Several candidate technologies could be implemented to produce these fuels, and one of the most promising is thermal gasification. READ MORE
