6. Shb and Its Homologues: Signaling in T Lymphocytes and Fibroblasts
Abstract : Stimulation of the T cell receptor (TCR) induces tyrosine phosphorylation of numerous intracellular proteins, leading to activation of the interleukin-2 (IL-2) gene in T lymphocytes. Shb is a ubiquitously expressed adapter protein, with the ability to associate with the T cell receptor and several signaling proteins in T cells, including: the TCR ζ-chain, LAT, PLC-γ1, Vav, SLP-76 and Gads. 7. Dendritic cells in cancer immunotherapy
Abstract : Dendritic cells (DCs) play a central role in the initiation and regulation of innate and adaptive immune responses and have increasingly been applied as vaccines for cancer patients. Ex vivo generation and antigen loading of monocyte-derived DCs allows a controlled maturation, with the aim of imprinting different DC functions that are essential for their subsequent induction of a T cell-mediated anti-tumor response. 8. Regulation of gut IgA induction by helper T cells
Abstract : The gut is the largest lymphoid organ in the body. Due to intense and constant exposure to the outside world, it also functions as the most important portal of entry for many pathogens. READ MORE

9. Generation of Therapeutic T Cells for Prostate Cancer
Abstract : The work presented herein focuses on the activation of the adaptive immune system in order to develop T cell-based immunotherapy for viral infections and cancer. The main goal was to identify and activate viral or tumoral antigen-specific T cells by using different identification, isolation and stimulation techniques. READ MORE

10. Highly Efficient CIGS Based Devices for Solar Hydrogen Production and Size Dependent Properties of ZnO Quantum Dots
Abstract : Materials and device concepts for renewable solar hydrogen production, and size dependent properties of ZnO quantum dots are the two main themes of this thesis.ZnO particles with diameters less than 10 nm, which are small enough for electronic quantum confinement, were synthesized by hydrolysis in alkaline zinc acetate solutions.
