  1. 1. Aspects of Tuberculosis and HIV Coinfection in Patients at Ethiopian Health Centers

    Author : Sten Skogmar; Enheten för infektionssjukdomar; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HIV; TB; clinical scoring; TB screening; CD4 cell count; immunosuppression; immune activation;

    Abstract : HIV and tuberculosis (TB) remain the two most common infectious causes of death worldwide. During the recent decade antiretroviral treatment (ART) has become available for millions of people living with HIV (PLHIV) globally; yet more than half of PLHIV have not yet initiated ART. 2. 2. Epidemiological aspects of tuberculosis in Guinea-Bissau, West Africa

    Author : Per Gustafson; Enheten för infektionssjukdomar; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tuberculin skin test; Infections; Infektioner; survival; mortality; case fatality rate; risk factor; incidence; Guinea-Bissau; Africa; epidemiology; Mycobacterium tuberculosis; HIV-2; HIV-1; HIV; Tbc; Tuberculosis; TB;

    Abstract : Tuberculosis (TB) has plagued the humanity for several thousands of years. The bacteria causing TB is mainly spread from person to person as an aerosol transmission. It is estimated that one third of the world’s population is infected with the disease; about 10% of these will develop active TB during their lifetime. READ MORE

  3. 3. Optimization of TB/HIV co-treatment in Ethiopian patients

    Author : Wondwossen Amogne Degu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV infection act with deadly synergy. HIV is the most important risk factor for latent TB reactivation and active TB progression following exposure or reinfection while TB accelerates HIV progression. TB is the most frequent cause of morbidity and mortality in HIV infection. READ MORE

  4. 4. Immune regulation during pulmonary TB and during M. tuberculosis/HIV-1 co-infection

    Author : Chaniya Leepiyasakulchai; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Individually, tuberculosis (TB) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) pose major global health problems and together, they form a deadly liaison. Preventive vaccines for any of the diseases are not yet available. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quasicrystal Approximants in the RE-Au-SM systems (RE = Gd, Tb, Ho, Yb; SM = Si, Ge) : Syntheses, structures and properties

    Author : Girma Hailu Gebresenbut; Cesar Pay Gómez; Martin Sahlberg; Torbjörn Gustafsson; Alan I. Goldman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quasicrystal approximant; structure; physical property; Chemistry with specialization in Inorganic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot oorganisk kemi; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : In this study, new Tsai-type 1/1 quasicrystal approximants (ACs) in the RE-Au-SM systems (RE = Gd, Tb, Ho, Yb; SM = Si, Ge) were synthesized using high temperature synthesis techniques such as self-flux, arc-melting-annealing and novel arc-melting-self-flux methods. The syntheses not only provided appropriate samples for the intended structural and physical property measurements but could also be adapted to other systems, especially where crystal growth is a challenge.
