  1. 16. Characterization of dioxin-induced bone tissue modulations : investigating the role of AhR and the retinoid system

    Author : Maria Herlin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : All individuals are exposed to a large number of chemicals from multiple sources, and concern is growing that many everyday chemicals, alone or in combination, contribute significantly to observed increases in public health diseases. Bone tissue has been identified as a target for effects of environmental chemicals, however, possible consequences for human and wildlife health as well as the underlying mechanisms behind these effects are not yet well known. 2. 17. Xenobiotics-induced phosphorylations of MDM2

    Author : Gerd Pääjärvi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The aim of the present study was to characterize the Mdm2 and p53 responses induced by DNA damaging xenobiotics and how these responses can be modified by non-genotoxic xenobiotics. During control conditions cellular levels of p53 are low. The level is regulated by Mdm2 and Mdm2 and p53 forms an autoregulatory loop. READ MORE

  3. 18. Molecular mechanisms of AhR mediated endocrine disruption of estrogen and retinoic acid signalling pathways

    Author : David Wahlström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Dioxins and similar compounds are toxic substances ubiquitously present in the environment. The most potent dioxin, 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD), is considered to be one of the most toxic compounds known to man. READ MORE

  4. 19. Dynamic regulation of aryl hydrocarbon receptor function and activity by different stimuli

    Author : Sandra Lücke; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cells have to sense and adapt to changes in their surrounding environment. Most of the cellular responses to environmental and developmental stimuli are mediated by PAS (Per-ARNT-Sim) proteins. A member of this family of proteins is the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), a ligand-activated bHLH transcription factor and E3 ubiquitin ligase. READ MORE

  5. 20. Human exposure to persistent organic pollutants : Illustrated by four case studies in Europe

    Author : Jana Weiss; Åke Bergman; Janice Huwe; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Human exposure; Persistent organic pollutants POPs ; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : An extensive use of chemicals in countless consumer products has resulted in human exposure to several persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Sufficient knowledge about their chemical composition properties and environmental faith is required, to be able to proper risk assess and regulate the substances. READ MORE
