1. Long-term properties of polyethylene films : efficiency of a natural antioxidant
Abstract : There is a growing awareness of the risks of pollution in biological systems and one potential problem is the synthetic antioxidants, used for e.g. the stabilisation of polymeric materials. Natural antioxidants are an interesting alternative, if the high efficiency and thermal stability of the synthetic compounds can be reached. READ MORE

2. Determining the quality of natural gas and biomethane : Development of a correlative method and instrument prototype for measuring gas quality
Abstract : The composition of natural gas highly depends on its origin: natural gas from various deposits, substitute natural gas that can be produced from fossil fuels or renewable sources. The intermixing of gases from various supply sources during pipeline transportation also leads to more complicated and unpredictable gas composition variations at the consumption site. READ MORE

3. Faraday modulation spectroscopy : Theoretical description and experimental realization for detection of nitric oxide
Abstract : Faraday modulation spectroscopy (FAMOS) is a laser-based spectroscopic dispersion technique for detection of paramagnetic molecules in gas phase. This thesis presents both a new theoretical description of FAMOS and experimental results from the ultra-violet (UV) as well as the mid-infrared (MIR) regions. READ MORE

4. Synchrotron radiation studies of gas phase molecules : from hydrogen to DNA sugars
Abstract : This thesis summarises experimental results on the molecular spectroscopy of gas phase molecules excited by synchrotron radiation in the VUV and soft X-ray regions. We have used three different detection techniques, photon induced fluorescence spectroscopy, photoionisation mass spectroscopy and near edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy to study molecular deuterium, hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, methanol, pyridine, pyridazine, pyrimidine, pyrazine, s-triazine, and 2-deoxy-D-ribose, the last one also known as the DNA sugar. 5. A Gap in the Grid : Attempts to introduce natural gas in Sweden 1967-1991
Abstract : This thesis follows the process of introducing natural gas in Sweden and the construction of a Northern European gas grid from 1967 to 1991. Natural gas is a relatively unnoticed fuel in Sweden today, but this relative anonymity stands in contrast to an extensive historical activity that has taken place behind the scenes of Swedish energy policy.
