1. Ion channels in drug discovery : focus on biological assays
Abstract : Ion channels are well characterised drug targets. However, the techniques used to study ion channel pharmacology have not been particularly applicable to modern drug discovery. READ MORE

2. Sensory neurons : stem cells and development
Abstract : The sensory nervous system is the only means we have of communicating with the surrounding world. The neurons responsible for the sensation of pain, touch, the ability to know the position of our limbs and part of maintenance of body posture are located in the dorsal root ganglia (DRG). READ MORE

3. Distribution and function of TRP ion channels in primary sensory neurons
Abstract : It is frequently argued that cannabinoids exert part of their analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects via activation of the cannabinoid CB1 receptor located on TRPV1-expressing primary sensory nerve fibres in peripheral tissues. However, we find no evidence of CB1 receptor immunoreactivity on nerve fibres in rat or mouse hindpaw skin and mesenteric artery. READ MORE

4. Understanding the interplay between gut microbiota, gut function and host genes in the generation of gastrointestinal symptoms and disease
Abstract : Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a multifactorial and complex disease categorized in the functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) with an intricate pathogenesis yet far from understood. The prevalence and burden of the FGIDs has urged the need to improve our understanding of them and recent findings have led us to realize that there are biochemical and structural alterations playing roles in their etiology. 5. Genetic control of sensory neuron diversification
Abstract : The somatosensory system of vertebrates transmits information from external and internal environments to the brain. This information relates to various modalities such as touch, temperature, itch and pain. The different modalities require a variety of subtypes of sensory neurons, tuned to detect and transmit specific stimuli. READ MORE
