  1. 1. Bayesian Inference for Nonlinear Dynamical Systems : Applications and Software Implementation

    Author : Jerker Nordh; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Indoor Navigation; pyParticleEst; Software Implementation; Simultaneous Localization and Mapping; Parameter Estimation; System Identification; Sequential Importance Sampling; Particle Filter; Bayesian Inference; Markov Chain Monte Carlo; Particle Smoother;

    Abstract : The topic of this thesis is estimation of nonlinear dynamical systems, focusing on the use of methods such as particle filtering and smoothing. There are three areas of contributions: software implementation, applications of nonlinear estimation and some theoretical extensions to existing algorithms. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies of Heavy Ion Induced Desorption in the Energy Range 5-100 MeV/u

    Author : Emma Hedlund; Lars Westerberg; Oleg Malyshev; Manfred Leisch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physics; Heavy Ion Induced Desorption; Ultra High Vacuum; NEG Coating; Heavy Ion Accelerators; Test Particle Monte-Carlo; Gas Flow; Throughput; Laser Refractometry; Metrology; Fysik;

    Abstract : During operation of heavy ion accelerators a significant pressure rise has been observed when the intensity of the high energy beam was increased. The cause for this pressure rise is ion induced desorption, which is the result when beam ions collide with residual gas molecules in the accelerator, whereby they undergo charge exchange. READ MORE

  3. 3. Deriving coarse grained descriptions of particle based simulations

    Author : Johan Nyström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coarse graining; Mori-Zwanzig projection; Dissipative particle dynamics;

    Abstract : In the field of molecular simulations, the long standing aim has been to study mechanisms that cannot easily be observed in experiments or understood in terms of more abstract models. Fully detailed molecular dynamics simulations can be extremely successful in many areas, but when applied to mesoscopic systems with a large number of molecules, the time and length scales on which important phenomena take place are often far beyond what is feasible to simulate with modern computers. 4. 4. Protons, other Light Ions, and 60Co Photons : Study of Energy Deposit Clustering via Track Structure Simulations

    Author : Gloria Bäckström; Anders Ahnesjö; Nina Tilly; José M. Fernández-Varea; Niels Bassler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Proton; light ion; Co-60 photon; track structure Monte Carlo code; clustering patterns of energy deposit; RBE; Medicinsk radiofysik; Medical Radiophysics;

    Abstract : Radiotherapy aims to sterilize cancer cells through ionization induced damages to their DNA whilst trying to reduce dose burdens to healthy tissues. This can be achieved to a certain extent by optimizing the choice of radiation to treat the patient, i.e. the types of particles and their energy based on their specific interaction patterns. 5. 5. Searches for the Charged Higgs at Hadron Colliders Based on the Tau Lepton Signature

    Author : Yann Coadou; Tord Ekelöf; William Trischuk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik;

    Abstract : The Standard Model of particle physics has been very successful in predicting a wide range of phenomena and has so far been confirmed by all existing data to a very high precision.The work described in this thesis tests the limits of validity of the Standard Model (SM) in two areas believed to be sensitive to deviations from the theory: the observation of unpredicted particles and CP violation.
