  1. 1. Fatty Acid Self-Assembly at the Air–Water Interface : Curvature, Patterning, and Biomimetics: A Study by Neutron Reflectometry and Atomic Force Microscopy

    Author : Erik Bergendal; Mark W. Rutland; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-assembly; branched fatty acids; Langmuir films; Langmuir–Blodgett; nanopatterning; AFM; neutron reflectometry; grenade fettsyror; Langmuir monoskikt; Langmuir–Blodgett; självassociering; nanostrukturerade material; AFM; neutronspridning; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : For more than a hundred years of interfacial science, long chain fatty acids have been the primary system for the study of floating monolayers at the air–water interface due to their amphiphilic nature and system simplicity: an insoluble hydrocarbon chain and a soluble carboxyl group at a flat air–water interface. Despite―or perhaps rather due to―the assumed simplicity of such systems and the maturity of the research field, the seemingly fundamentally rooted notion of a two-dimensional water surface has yet to be challenged. 2. 2. Media technology versus communication patterns in the organizational interface

    Author : Klara Pihlajamäki; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Kommunikation inom organisationer; Datorisering-- Organisationer;

    Abstract : This thesis describes communication ecology in organizations. One of the main objectives is to identify "ecological balance" which, initially and metaphorically, is described as interaction of senses. The focus is on the systemic relationships between media and communication modes with certain "sensory bias". READ MORE

  3. 3. Apolipoprotein E and cholinergic enzymes : the interface in dementia

    Author : Swetha Vijayaraghavan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The main confirmed genetic risk factor for sporadic form of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is apolipoprotein E (ApoE) ε4 allele (APOE4). ApoE protein aids in receptor ligand mediated transport, distribution and metabolism of fatty acids and cholesterol. READ MORE

  4. 4. Methods development for the investigation of the mammalian genome radial architecture : the quantitative side

    Author : Gabriele Girelli; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The nucleus of mammalian cells cradles the genome, an ensemble of nucleic acid macromolecular polymers that store information in a physical form. For a cell to perform life-sustaining processes, reading and utilizing the information encoded in the genome monomers’ sequence is necessary. READ MORE

  5. 5. Characterization of p58 and rab1p, two proteins operating at the interface of the endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi complex

    Author : Ulla Lahtinen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : protein transport; rab1p; p58; animal lectin; intermediate compartment; endoplasmic reticulum; Golgi complex;

    Abstract : Endomembranes participating in the early stages in exocytosis consist of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), the Golgi complex, and vesicular transport intermediates at their interface. These vesicular transport intermediates were first visualized by following the synchronized transport of a viral membrane protein from the ER to the Golgi complex, which occurs at slower rates at reduced temperatures causing an accumulation of transport vesicles.
