  1. 1. From stem cells to neurons : a BMPy ride

    Author : Therese Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Pinpointing the mechanisms behind the formation of the vertebrate development has been an intriguing and challenging task for researchers for several decades. In the 1980s two independent groups managed to isolate cells from the inner cell mass of a mouse blastocyst and to culture and expand them in vitro, while maintaining their pluripotency. READ MORE

  2. 2. Acute Pulmonary Embolism : not just an acute condition after all

    Author : Therese Andersson; Stefan Söderberg; Bo Carlberg; Bengt Zöller; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute Pulmonary Embolism; Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension CTEPH ; Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Disease CTEPD ; invärtesmedicin; Internal Medicine; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Abstract : Background: Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is the third most common cardiovascular disease following myocardial infarction and stroke. Despite diagnostic improvements, the diagnosis of PE is still associated with many difficulties, as the symptoms of an acute PE are nonspecific. READ MORE

A major contributing factor may be the redistribution of adipose tissue, from the peripheral to central depots, associated with menopause. READ MORE

  4. 4. Quantifying cancer patient survival : extensions and applications of cure models and life expectancy estimation

    Author : Therese M L Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cancer patient survival is the single most important measure of cancer patient care. By quantifying cancer patient survival in different ways further insights can be gained in terms of temporal trends and differences in cancer patient survival between groups. READ MORE

  5. 5. Train–Track–Bridge Interaction for the Analysis of Railway Bridges and Train Running Safety

    Author : Therese Arvidsson; Raid Karoumi; Andreas Andersson; Costin Pacoste; Guido De Roeck; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; dynamics; railway bridge; bridge deck acceleration; train–bridge interaction; vehicle model; wheel–rail force; running safety; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Abstract : In this thesis, train–track–bridge interaction (TTBI) models are used to study the dynamic response of railway bridges. A TTBI model considers the dynamics of the train in addition to that of the track–bridge system. The TTBI model enables the assessment of train running safety and passenger comfort. READ MORE
