  1. 1. Reasoning with thermal cameras : Framing and meaning-making in naturalistic settings in higher education

    Author : Robin Samuelsson; Jesper Haglund; Maja Elmgren; Cedric Linder; Tor Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics Education Research; IR cameras; thermal cameras; thermodynamics; phase transition; heat transfer; Resources framework; Social semiotics; teacher education; chemistry education; visualization; Fysikdidaktik; kemididaktik; värmekamera; lärarutbildning; termodynamik; fasövergång; lärandesekvens; Socialsemiotik; Resursramverket; Physics with specialization in Physics Education; Fysik med inriktning mot fysikens didaktik;

    Abstract : In this Licentiate thesis, framed by the Resources framework and Social semiotics, I explore how students and instructors, investigating thermal phenomena with IR cameras, come to conceptually and epistemologically frame the naturalistic settings they participate in. Additionally, I look at how they productively employ resources , what barriers they encounter while reasoning about the thermal phenomena and how the semiotic resources of the IR camera relate to the framing and resources employed in their investigations. 3. 3. Energy Efficiency through Thermal Energy Storage : Possibilities for the Swedish Building Stock

    Author : Johan Heier; Viktoria Martin; Chris Bales; Signhild Gehlin; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermal energy storage; buildings; energy efficiency; energy savings; peak load reduction; Swedish building stock; termisk energilagring; byggnader; energieffektivisering; energibesparing; toppbelastningsutjämning; Sveriges byggnadsbestånd; Värmelagring i byggnader;

    Abstract : The need for heating and cooling in buildings constitutes a considerable part of the total energy use in a country and reducing this need is of outmost importance in order to reach national and international goals for reducing energy use and emissions. One important way of reaching these goals is to increase the proportion of renewable energy used for heating and cooling of buildings. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aqueous graphene dispersions for paper packaging

    Author : Wei Zhao; Anwar Ahniyaz; Abhilash Sugunan; Thomas Gillgren; Johan A. Larsson; Zhi-Bin Zhang; Shi-Li Zhang; Valeria Nicolosi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Graphene; Aqueous graphene dispersions; Noncovalent interactions; Composites; Barriers; Inkjet printing; Kemi med inriktning mot kemisk fysik; Chemistry with specialization in Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : Graphene is widely touted as the thinnest and the most versatile material available. As an atomically thin layer of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal configuration, graphene has a combination of technologically important properties, such as thermal and electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, and impermeability to gases. 5. 5. A multi-scale approach for predicting the fire response of building barriers

    Author : Blanca Andrés Valiente; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fire; Building Barriers; Heat transfer; Experimental; Gypsum; Stone wool; furnace; H-TRIS;

    Abstract : Building barriers are compartmentation elements in buildings that limit the passage of fire and smoke to adjacent spaces. They are key elements in the overall response of a building in a fire. The adequate fire response of building barriers is usually assessed by the fulfilment of standardized resistance to fire tests.
