  1. 1. Physical exposure, musculoskeletal symptoms and attitudes related to ICT use

    Author : Ewa Gustafsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Input device; Wrist movements; Electrogoniometry; EMG; Muscle activity; Thumb movements; Working technique; Information and communication technology; Computer mouse; Mobile phone;

    Abstract : High prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms/disorders in neck and upper extremities are reported among computer users. Considering the widespread use of information and communication technology (ICT) and mobile phones becoming more and more like computers with small keyboards it is of importance to identify the factors and conditions related to this use, that influence our health. 2. 2. Wrist and thumb joint postures and motions: Measurements using electrogoniometry and EMG

    Author : Per Jonsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Wrist joint; Finger joint; Electromyography; Accuracy; Electrogoniometry; Input device; Information and communication technology; Mobile phone; Muscle activity; Posture; Thumb; Wrist;

    Abstract : Correct measurements of the joints’ extreme postures, velocity and repetitiveness are important for studies of the origin of musculoskeletal disorders. Posture measurements of wrist and thumb joints may also provide insights into input device designs that may reduce effort and/or facilitate productivity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Neural correlates of skilled movement : functional mapping of the human brain with fMRI and PET

    Author : H Henrik Ehrsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Brain; manual dexterity inter-limb coordination; kinesthesia; motor imagery;

    Abstract : Humans have unique abilities to perform certain types of skilled voluntary movements. In this thesis we examine the neural substrates of. (i) fine digit actions, in particular the control of fingertip forces during manipulation, and (ii) the coordination of voluntary movements of different limbs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Associations between body functions, activities and health-related quality of life from onset until 18 months after stroke

    Author : Anna-Karin Welmer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Hand function; health-related quality of life; mobility limitation; muscle spasticity; paresis; perceptual disorders; self-care; somatosensory disorders; stroke; synergy;

    Abstract : Introduction and aims: In planning rehabilitation services for patients with stroke, it is important to know the frequency of the impairments and activity limitations presented by the patients and also how each body function and activity is associated with other body functions and activities, as well as the patients health-related quality of life (HRQL) at different time-points after stroke. The overall aims of the thesis were to describe body functions, activities and HRQL in patients with stroke and to analyse the associations between those variables, in the first week and at three and 18 months after stroke onset. 5. 5. On the Precision Grip in Manual Transport

    Author : Nasser Hosseini; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The aim of the present study was to investigate the grip and load force relations in the precision grip (between thumb and index finger) in static and dynamic situations, and to develop automatic procedures for the analysis of position and force data from tests involving the precision grip. The goal of the work was to create physiologically based methods for identification and quantitative determination of disturbances in the nervous control of hand motor function. READ MORE
