  2. 2. The role of thyroid stimulating hormone receptor and novel candidate genes FAM13a and POM121c in adipocyte dysfunction

    Author : Veroniqa Lundbäck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis aimed to investigate the role of thyroid stimulating hormone receptors (TSHRs) in adipose tissue (AT) and their role in AT dysfunction and obesity-related metabolic complications. Furthermore, we aimed to functionally evaluate novel candidate genes associated with insulin resistance, a marker of dysfunctional adipose tissue. READ MORE

  3. 3. Exposure to brominated flame retardants in electronics recycling : air and human plasma levels

    Author : Anneli Julander; Magnus Engwall; Bert van Bavel; Myrto Petreas; Örebro universitet; []

    Abstract : Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), 1,2-bis(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)ethane (BTBPE) and 1,2-bis(2,3,4,5,6-pentabromophenyl)ethane (DeBDethane) were analysed in air and blood samples from workers at an electronics recycling facility. The samples were collected regularly for 18 months and were analysed by isomer specific GC/MS analysis in both electron impact (EI) and negative chemical ionisation (NCI) mode. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hormonal regulation of the primate uterus : effects of hormone treatment and lifestyle intervention

    Author : Mariana Hulchiy; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : endometrium;

    Abstract : The uterus is a major hormone-responsive reproductive organ in primates. Hormones promote their effect via different pathways. Receptors involved in steroid hormone, thyroid hormone and insulin signaling have been found in the endometrium. READ MORE

  5. 5. Presence of extrathyroidal TSH-receptor, with special reference to its role in neonatal regulation of lipolysis

    Author : Annika Janson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : adaptation; adipocytes; Graves disease; growth hormone; human; hyper thyroidism; infant; insulin; metabolism; TSHR stimulating antibodies; thyrotropin; TSH.;

    Abstract : At birth, the newborn child must utilize stored energy until lactation is established. The main source of energy is fat - that is, triglycerides stored in the white adipose tissue. This study deals with hormonal regulation of lipolysis in the neonatal period. READ MORE
