  1. 1. Generalized Vandermonde matrices and determinants in electromagnetic compatibility

    Author : Karl Lundengård; Sergei Silvestrov; Dietrich von Rosen; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics Applied Mathematics; matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : Matrices whose rows (or columns) consists of monomials of sequential powers are called Vandermonde matrices and can be used to describe several useful concepts and have properties that can be helpful for solving many kinds of problems. In this thesis we will discuss this matrix and some of its properties as well as a generalization of it and how it can be applied to curve fitting discharge current for the purpose of ensuring electromagnetic compatibility. Abstract : Brownian motion has met growing interest in mathematics, physics and particularly in finance since it was introduced in the beginning of the twentieth century. Stochastic processes generalizing Brownian motion have influenced many research fields theoretically and practically. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modelling short and long term consequences of changes in diagnostic activity and treatment

    Author : Marcus Westerberg; Rolf Larsson; Hans Garmo; Pär Stattin; Keith Humphreys; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Since the late 90’s the diagnostic activity for prostate cancer has increased in Sweden, primarily due to increased use of PSA testing, and this has led to a large increase in diagnoses. Simultaneously, there have been changes in treatment strategies, and more effective treatments have been introduced. READ MORE

  4. 4. Extreme points of the Vandermonde determinant in numerical approximation, random matrix theory and financial mathematics

    Author : Asaph Keikara Muhumuza; Sergei Silvestrov; Anatoliy Malyarenko; Karl Lundengård; Milica Rancic; Olga Liivapuu; Mälardalens högskola; []

    Abstract : This thesis discusses the extreme points of the Vandermonde determinant on various surfaces, their applications in numerical approximation, random matrix theory and financial mathematics. Some mathematical models that employ these extreme points such as curve fitting, data smoothing, experimental design, electrostatics, risk control in finance and method for finding the extreme points on certain surfaces are demonstrated. Abstract : In the planning phases of automated manufacturing, generating efficient programs for robot stations is a crucial problem which needs to be solved. One aspect of the programming is the optimization of task sequences, such as series of welds or measuring points, so that the cycle time is minimized. READ MORE
