  1. 1. Tissue Perfusion and Oxygenation Evaluated by Measurements of Tissue Gases and pH. An Experiemental Study

    Author : Åke Mellström; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård; Anaesthesiology; Tissue pH; Tissue PCO2; Oxygen utilization; Tissue PO2;

    Abstract : Optimum peripheral perfusion, oxygenation and oxygen utilization is a prerequisite for normal wound healing, resistance to infection and cardiac function. The purpose of this study was to evaluate peripheral oxygen utilization by measurements of subcutaneous tissue gases and pH (PscO2, PscCO2 and pHsc) in comparison to established techniques for measurements of periph-eral tissue oxygenation and oxygen utilization in experimental animal models with hyperoxia-hypoxia, acidosis-alkalosis and haemorrhage-resuscitation. 2. 2. Quantitative Tracer Based MRI Perfusion : Potentials and Limitations

    Author : Arvid Morell; Atle Bjørnerud; Håkan Ahlström; Linda Knutsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MRI; Perfusion; Contrast agent; Relaxivity; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Abstract : Tracer based MRI perfusion measurements is a clinically useful tool to assess regional distributions of tissue blood flow and volume. The method may be based on any of the three relaxation mechanisms T1, T1 and T2*, the latter denoted DSC-MRI being the most common. READ MORE

  3. 3. On perfusion estimation using ultrasound

    Author : Tomas Jansson; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Instrumentation technology; Speckle; Artifacts; Perfusion; Ultrasound; Doppler; Mät- och instrumenteringsteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis has the main focus on ways to improve the blood perfusion estimate, as obtained from a continuous wave Doppler system. Earlier studies have shown large temporal variations in the detected perfusion estimate, due to speckle. READ MORE

  4. 4. Methods, Instrumentation and Mechanisms for Optical Characterization of Tissue and Treatment of Malignant Tumours

    Author : Sara Pålsson; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; temperature; perfusion; PDT; photodynamic therapy; mechanisms; tissue characterization; instrumentation; optical biopsy; fluorescence spectroscopy; spectroscopy techniques; Raman spectroscopy; interstitial photodynamic therapy; photodynamic threshold dose; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylärfysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, different optical methods utilising visible light for characterization of tissue have been developed and evaluated. The feasibility of many of these methods has been demonstrated in the laboratory or in animal experiments. READ MORE

  5. 5. The effect of mechanical ventilation on abdominal organs : Analysing the role of PEEP and perfusion

    Author : Silvia Marchesi; Miklós Lipcsey; Anders Larsson; Göran Hedenstierna; Torbjörn Karlsson; Anders Oldner; Ragnvi Hagman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ARDS; sepsis; abdominal inflammation; edema; perfusion; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Abstract : Background: The effect of mechanical ventilation on abdominal organs is not well understood and investigated yet. Previous studies, using an animal sepsis-like model, found an association between mechanical ventilation (MV) and abdominal edema and inflammation. READ MORE
