  1. 1. Segmented HPGe detectors for post-irradiation examination of nuclear fuel : Design and demonstration in gamma emission tomography

    Author : Vikram Rathore; Peter Andersson; Erik Andersson Sundén; Ane Håkansson; Andrew Boston; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Segmented HPGe detector; Nuclear fuel; Post-irradiation examination; Nuclear fuel diagnostics; Gamma emission tomography; Gamma spectroscopy; Non-destructive fuel testing; Applied Nuclear Physics; Tillämpad kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Gamma emission tomography (GET) is a proven non-invasive technique for post-irradiation examination of nuclear fuel. In the past, collimated HPGe detectors were used for GET measurements due to their good energy resolution. READ MORE

  2. 2. Nuclear safeguards directed to the application of multivariate analysis techniques to existing and future nuclear fuel cycles

    Author : Vaibhav Mishra; Sophie Grape; Zsolt Elter; Erik Branger; Peter Dendooven; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nuclear safeguards; nuclear fuel verification; spent fuel; molten salt reactors; machine learning.; Fysik med inriktning mot tillämpad kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Applied Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : For as long as nuclear power has existed, there has been a concern for effectively safeguarding nuclear material since it was learned that it could be misused. Early on, many nations were interested in nuclear power, and therefore there was an urgent need to verify that it was only used for civilian purposes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies of Nuclear Fuel Performance Using On-site Gamma-ray Spectroscopy and In-pile Measurements

    Author : Ingvar Matsson; Anders Bäcklin; Ane Håkansson; Björn Grapengiesser; Riitta Kyrky-Rajamäki; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Nuclear physics; fission gas release; nuclear fuel; core physics; gamma-ray spectroscopy; LOKET; thermal power; burnup; fuel failure; validation; cladding; Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Presently there is a clear trend of increasing demands on in-pile performance of nuclear fuel. Higher target burnups, part length rods and various fuel additives are some examples of this trend. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies of Cherenkov light production in irradiated nuclear fuel assemblies

    Author : Erik Branger; Sophie Grape; Anders Hjalmarsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DCVD; Cherenkov light; Geant4; Nuclear fuel; Nuclear safeguards; Fysik med inriktning mot tillämpad kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Applied Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : The Digital Cherenkov Viewing Device (DCVD) is an instrument used by authority inspectors to assess irradiated nuclear fuel assemblies in wet storage for the purpose of nuclear safeguards. Originally developed to verify the presence of fuel assemblies with long cooling times and low burnup, the DCVD accuracy is sufficient for partial defect verification, where one verifies that part of an assembly has not been diverted. 5. 5. A Tomographic Measurement Technique for Irradiated Nuclear Fuel Assemblies

    Author : Staffan Jacobsson Svärd; Anders Bäcklin; Ane Håkansson; Klaas van der Meer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; tomography; nuclear fuel; SPECT; core physics; validation; pin power; safeguards; partial-defect verification; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : The fuel assemblies used at the Swedish nuclear power plants contain typically between 100 and 300 fuel rods. An experimental technique has been demanded for determining the relative activities of specific isotopes in individual fuel rods without dismantling the assemblies. READ MORE
