  1. 1. Function Variables for Constraint Programming

    Author : Brahim Hnich; Edward Tsang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Datalogi; Constraint saisfaction; constraint programming; high-level modelling; abstraction; reformulation; function variables.; Datalogi; Computer science; Datalogi; Computer Science; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : Quite often modelers with constraint programming (CP) use the same modelling patterns for different problems, possibly from different domains. This results in recurring idioms in constraint programs. Our approach can be seen as a three-step approach. First, we identify some of these recurring patterns in constraint programs. READ MORE

  2. 2. Composite Likelihood Estimation for Latent Variable Models with Ordinal and Continuous, or Ranking Variables

    Author : Myrsini Katsikatsou; Fan Yang-Wallentin; Irini Moustaki; Karl Gustav Jöreskog; Ruggero Bellio; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; latent variable models; factor analysis; structural equation models; Thurstonian model; item response theory; composite likelihood estimation; pairwise likelihood estimation; maximum likelihood; weighted least squares; ordinal variables; ranking variables; lavaan; Statistics; Statistik;

    Abstract : The estimation of latent variable models with ordinal and continuous, or ranking variables is the research focus of this thesis. The existing estimation methods are discussed and a composite likelihood approach is developed. READ MORE

  3. 3. On Herglotz-Nevanlinna functions in several variables

    Author : Mitja Nedic; Annemarie Luger; B. L. G. Jonsson; Ragnar Sigurðsson; Pamela Gorkin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Herglotz-Nevanlinna functions; several complex variables; integral representations; Nevanlinna measures; Herglotz-Nevanlinnafunktioner; flera komplexa variabler; integralframställningar; Nevanlinnamått; Mathematics; matematik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we investigate different aspects of the class of Herglotz-Nevanlinna functions in several variables. These are holomorphic functions on the poly-upper half-plane having non-negative imaginary part. Our results are presented in the four research articles A1 - A4, which are included in this thesis. 4. 4. Methods for improving covariate balance in observational studies

    Author : Philip Fowler; Xavier de Luna; Ingeborg Waernbaum; Martin Huber; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; causal effect; coarsening; discretisation; proxy variables; register study; swedish social insurance agency; unobserved variables;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes to the field of causal inference, where the main interest is to estimate the effect of a treatment on some outcome. At its core, causal inference is an exercise in controlling for imbalance (differences) in covariate distributions between the treated and the controls, as such imbalances otherwise can bias estimates of causal effects. 5. 5. Continuous-time System Identification : Refined Instrumental Variables and Sampling Assumptions

    Author : Rodrigo A. González; Cristian R. Rojas; Marion Gilson-Bagrel; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; System identification; Continuous-time systems; Refined instrumental variables; band-limited signals; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Continuous-time system identification deals with the problem of building continuous-time models of dynamical systems from sampled input and output data. There are two main approaches in this field: indirect and direct. In the indirect approach, a suitable discrete-time model is first determined, and then it is transformed into continuous-time.
