  1. 1. VEGFR-2 in Endothelial Differentiation and Vascular Organization

    Author : Dan Edholm; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Xiujuan Li; Victoria Bautch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Molecular medicine; Embryonic stem; VEGFR-2; Flk1; KDR; VEGF; vasculogenesis; angiogenesis; embryoid body; Molekylärmedicin;

    Abstract : The cardiovascular system is the first functional organ to develop during embryogenesis. As the embryo reaches above a certain size, passive diffusion of gases and nutrients is no longer compatible with efficient growth. READ MORE

  2. 2. Design and Synthesis of 11C-Labelled Compound Libraries for the Molecular Imaging of EGFr, VEGFr-2, AT1 and AT2 Receptors : Transition-Metal Mediated Carbonylations Using [11C]Carbon Monoxide

    Author : Ola Åberg; Bengt Långström; Nicholas Long; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; [11C]carbon monoxide; isotopic labelling; PET; acrylamide; EGFR; VEGFR-2; 11C; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry; Organisk kemi; Organic Pharmaceutical Chemistry; Organisk farmaceutisk kemi;

    Abstract : This work deals with radiochemistry and new approaches to develop novel PET tracers labelled with the radionuclide 11C.Two methods for the synthesis of 11C-labelled acrylamides have been explored. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Role of Shb in Angiogenesis, FGF and VEGF Signalling in Endothelial Cells

    Author : Kristina Holmqvist; Michael Welsh; Eva Degerman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Shb; Src; FAK; Angiogenesis; VEGFR-2; FGFR-1; Endothelial cells; Spreading; Stress fiber formation; siRNA; VEGF; FGF; Differentiation; Migration; Tube formation; RNAi; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : Angiogenesis is defined as the formation of new capillary blood vessels from pre-existing ones. This process involves several steps including: migration, proliferation and differentiation of endothelial cells into blood vessels. READ MORE

  4. 4. Molecular Regulation of Angiogenesis

    Author : Sofie Mellberg; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Frank Böhmer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; endothelial morphogenesis; VEGFR-2; protein tyrosine phosphatase; VE-PTP; PTPRB; endocan; ESM-1; angiogenesis; Molecular medicine; Molekylär medicin;

    Abstract : Angiogenesis, de novo formation of blood vessels from the pre-existing vasculature, is crucial in embryo development, and in processes in the adult such as wound healing and ovulation. Angiogenesis is also involved in pathological conditions such as cancer and chronic inflammatory diseases, which are propagated by dysregulated, excess angiogenesis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Effects of sex steroids and tamoxifen on VEGF in the breast

    Author : Stina Garvin; Charlotta Dabrosin; Lars Holmgren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; angiogenesis; breast cancer; estradiol; MCF-7; microdialysis; nude mice; progesterone; sVEGFR-1; VEGFR-2; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : Sex steroid exposure constitutes a risk factor for breast cancer, but little is known about the effects of sex steroids on factors mediating angiogenesis, the development of new blood vessels, in normal and malignant breast tissue. In this thesis we have investigated the effects of estradiol, progesterone, and the nonsteroidal anti-estrogen tamoxifen on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptors (VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2) in normal human breast tissue, endothelial cells, and breast cancer.
