  1. 1. Androgen controlled regulatory systems in prostate cancer potential new therapeutic targets and prognostic markers

    University dissertation from Umeå : Medicinsk biovetenskap

    Author : Peter Hammarsten; Umeå universitet.; [2008]
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; prostate cancer; angiogenesis; human biopsy; androgen ablation; castration; prognostic marker; prognostic factor; growth control; VEGF; vascular endothelial growth factor; EGFR; epidermal growth factor receptor; pEGFR; phosphorylated EGFR; phosphorylated epidermal growth factor receptor; VETERINARY MEDICINE Pathology; VETERINÄRMEDICIN Patologi;

    Abstract : BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer is by far the most common cancer among Swedish men. Some patients have an aggressive lethal disease, but the majority of affected men have long expected survival. Unfortunately, the diagnostic tools available are insufficient in predicting disease aggressiveness. Novel prognostic markers are therefore urgently needed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Ageing-associated changes of lysosomal compartment implications on cellular functions

    University dissertation from Institutionen för nervsystem och rörelseorgan

    Author : Yuri Stroikin; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2007]
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Ageing; Apoptosis; Biological gabarge; Hormesis; Lipofuscin; Lysosome; VETERINARY MEDICINE Pathology; VETERINÄRMEDICIN Patologi;

    Abstract : The lysosomal compartment is a major site for intracellular degradation. Lysosomal degradation of the cell’s own constituents, so-called autophagy, not only provides a cell with nutrients, but also removes damaged and potentially dangerous endogenous structures, thus securing intracellular homeostasis. 3. 3. Effect of thimerosal on the murine immune system especially induction of systemic autoimmunity

    University dissertation from Institutionen för molekylär och klinisk medicin

    Author : Said Havarinasab; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; thimerosal; ethylmercury; autoimmunity; mice; immunosuppression; Th1; Th2; VETERINARY MEDICINE Pathology; VETERINÄRMEDICIN Patologi;

    Abstract : The organic mercury compound ethylmercurithiosalicylate (thimerosal), an antiseptic and a preservative, has recently raised public health concern due to its presence in vaccines globally. Thimerosal dissociates in the body to thiosalicylate and ethyl mercury (EtHg), which is partly converted to inorganic mercuric mercury (Hg2+). READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies of p63 and p63 related proteins in patients diagnosed with oral lichen planus

    University dissertation from Umeå : Medicinsk biovetenskap

    Author : Majid Ebrahimi; Umeå universitet.; [2007]
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; VETERINARY MEDICINE Pathology; VETERINÄRMEDICIN Patologi;

    Abstract : Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the oral mucosa and also one of the more common mucosal conditions mostly affecting middle aged individuals. Even though OLP is well investigated the etiology of this disease is still unknown, even if autoimmunity as a possible etiologic factor has been suggested. READ MORE

  5. 5. Plasmin a potent pro-inflammatory factor

    University dissertation from Umeå : Medicinsk kemi och biofysik

    Author : Yongzhi Guo; Umeå universitet.; [2008]
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; plasmin; inflammation; rheumatoid arthritis; bacterial arthritis; infection; sepsis; cytokine; signal transduction; VETERINARY MEDICINE Pathology; VETERINÄRMEDICIN Patologi;

    Abstract : Plasmin, the central molecule of the plasminogen activator system, is a broad-spectrum serine protease. Plasmin is important for the degradation of fibrin and other components of the extracellular matrix (ECM) during a number of physiological and pathological processes. READ MORE
