1. Characterisation of terahertz integrated membrane circuits
Abstract : In this thesis a novel measurement setup and thru-reflect-line (TRL) calibration kit for vector network analyser (VNA) measurements at 220 GHz to 325 GHz (WR-03) is presented. Measurements on passive membrane circuit devices under test (DUTs) show improvement in the S-parameters compared to a waveguide integrated membrane circuit setup in previous work, especially in reducing the ripples and increasing repeatability of the measurements. 2. Microwave Transistor Noise Model Extraction Methods and a Non-Contacting Scattering Parameter Measurement Method
Abstract : This thesis has two parts. The first part discuss noise model extraction methods for FETs. The second part describe theory and implementation of a non-contacting S-parameter measurement method. Noise is an important aspect for a circuit designer, because noise generated in the circuit is a sensitivity limiting factor. READ MORE

3. On-chip terahertz characterisation of liquids
Abstract : Spectroscopy at terahertz frequencies can be used in a wide range of applications including radio-astronomy, pharmaceutical manufacturing control, and the study of processes in molecular biology. Biomolecular samples should preferably be studied in their native environment, water, however, water poses extreme attenuation for THz-frequency waves, deteriorating or even impeding analysis using these waves. 4. Planar-Goubau-line components for terahertz applications
Abstract : Terahertz-wave technology has a broad range of applications, including radio astronomy, telecommunications, security, medical applications, pharmaceutical quality control, and biological sensing. However, the sources, detectors, and components are less efficient at this frequency band due to parasitic effects and increased total losses, which hinder the performance of terahertz systems. 5. Experimental Evaluation of a Microwave Imaging System for Muscle Rupture Detection
Abstract : Injuries to the hamstring muscles are one of the most common injuries in sports such as football, sprinting, and running. Imaging plays a key role in diagnosing and managing athletes with muscle injuries, and particularly magnetic resonance imaging is usually required to diagnose muscle ruptures. READ MORE
