16. Dynamics of Vehicle-Deck Interactions
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns the modelling and analysis of vehicle-ship deck interactions. The physical modelling of vehicles is discussed together with the modelling of supporting structures/ship decks, and the interactions between vehicles and supporting structures. READ MORE

17. Multi-Disciplinary Conceptual Design of Future Jet Engine Systems
Abstract : This thesis describes various aspects of the development of a multi-disciplinary aero engine conceptual design tool, TERA2020 (Techno-economic, Environmental and Risk Assessment for 2020), based on an explicit algorithm that considers: engine performance, engine aerodynamic and mechanical design, aircraft design and performance, emissions prediction and environmental impact, engine and airframe noise, and production, maintenance and direct operating costs. As part of this research effort, a newly-derived semi-empirical NOx correlation for modern rich-burn single-annular combustors is proposed. 18. Light-weighting Methodology in Rail Vehicle Design through Introduction of Load Carrying Sandwich Panels
Abstract : Lightweight design in rail vehicles has been important for quite some time. Structures have been optimised to fulfill their purpose and cut unnecessary weight to reach allowable axle loads. Classically this is done by using steel, thin-walled structures, throughout the car body, or, alternatively, power-pressed aluminum profiles. READ MORE

19. Exploiting individual wheel actuators to enhance vehicle dynamics and safety in electric vehicles
Abstract : This thesis is focused on individual wheel actuators in road vehicles intended for vehicle motion control. Particular attention is paid to electro-mechanical actuators and how they can contribute to improving vehicle dynamics and safety. READ MORE

20. Towards sustainable urban transportation : Test, demonstration and development of fuel cell and hybrid-electric buses
Abstract : Several aspects make today’s transport system non-sustainable: • Production, transport and combustion of fossil fuels lead to global and local environmental problems. • Oil dependency in the transport sector may lead to economical and political instability. READ MORE
