  1. 21. On keratin mutations in epidermolytic hyperkeratosis and the regulation of keratin expression by retinoids

    Author : Marie Virtanen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; EHK; keratin; retinoids; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Dermatology and Venerology; dermatologi och venereologi;

    Abstract : Epidermolytic hyperkeratosis is a rare inherited disease of the skin caused by a dominant-negative mutation in keratin 1 (K1) or 10 (K10). Keratins are the major structural protein in epidermis and mutations causes instability of intermediate filament and keratinocyte fragility. READ MORE

  2. 22. Ultraviolet Radiation and Squamous Cell Carcinoma in Human Skin

    Author : Cecilia Wassberg; Olle Larkö; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Ultraviolet radiation; squamos cell carcinoma; incidence; sunscreens; p53; DNA damage; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Dermatology and Venerology; dermatologi och venereologi;

    Abstract : Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is a major risk factor for development of skin cancer. UVR-induced DNA damage and a dysfunctional p53 protein are important steps in the development of squamous cell carcinoman in human skin (SCC). READ MORE

  3. 23. UVA/B induced redox alterations and apoptosis in human melanocytes

    Author : Petra Wäster Larsson; Inger Rosdahl; Karin Öllinger; Ian Cotgreave; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; UV; melanocyte; apoptosis; glutathione; p53; Dermatology and venerology; Dermatologi och venerologi;

    Abstract : Malignant melanoma is one of the most rapidly increasing cancers and accounts for about three-quarter of all skin cancer deaths worldwide. Despite compelling evidence that ultraviolet (UV) irradiation causes melanoma the knowledge how various wavelength spectra affect the balance between proliferation and apoptosis controlling the homeostasis of the melanocyte population is still limited. 4. 24. Congenital Recessive Ichthyosis : Studies of Gene Expressions Related to Keratinocyte Differentiation and Skin Barrier Repair

    Author : Hanqian Zhang; Hans Törmä; Anders Vahlquist; Marie Virtanen; Mikael Ivarsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; genodermatoses; oligoarray; trancriptomics; transglutaminase-1; cornified envelope; peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor δ; all-trans retinoic acids.; Dermatologi och venereologi; Dermatology and Venerology;

    Abstract : Autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis (ARCI) is a rare monogenetic disorder characterized by a defective skin barrier, hyperkeratosis, and dry, scaly skin. It affects keratinocyte differentiation and is caused by mutations in any of at least 12 genes believed to control the formation of ω-O-acylceramide and the corneocyte lipid envelope (CLE): ABCA12, ALOXE3, ALOX12B, CERS3, CYP4F22, ELOVL4, LIPN, NIPAL4, PNPLA1, SDR9C7, SLC27A4, and TGM1. 5. 25. The Emergency Contraceptive Pill – a Second Chance : Knowledge, Attitudes and Experiences Among Users and Providers

    Author : Gunilla Aneblom; Tanja Tydén; Karin Eurenius; Kristina Gemzell-Danielsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; focus-group; emergency contraception; attitudes; induced abortion; OTC; content analysis; pharmacy; nurse-midwives; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to study knowledge, attitudes and experience of emergency contraceptive pills among women and providers. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used. Focus-group interviews were conducted with teenage-girls (I) and with women who had purchased ECP without prescription (IV). READ MORE
