  1. 1. Echocardiographic measurements at Takotsubo cardiomyopathy : transient left ventricular dysfunction

    Author : Micael Waldenborg; Kent Emilsson; Ole Fröbert; Per Lindqvist; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Echocardiography; takotsubo; annulus motion; cardiac autonomic function; broken heart; diastolic; ventricular mass; concentric wall motion; Medicine; Medicin; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Abstract : Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC) is a disease characterized by transient left ventricular (LV) dysfunction and typical wall motion abnormalities in apical parts, without obvious signs of coronary influence. Due to its elusive natural cause and the lack of clarified pathology, further studies are needed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy : Genetic and Electrocardiographic Aspects on Risk of Ventricular Arrhythmia and Diagnosis

    Author : Anneli Svensson; Cecilia Gunnarsson; Pyotr Platonov; Lars O. Karlsson; Perry M. Elliott; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Introduction: ARVC (Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy) is a heritable rare disease of the heart muscle, primarily affecting the right ventricle, that may cause arrhythmias and heart failure.Aim: The overall aim of this thesis was to study various aspects of genetic information and electrocardiography (ECG), for their use in diagnosis and risk evaluation in ARVC. 3. 3. Strain echocardiography in cardiac surgery - studies on the effects of loading conditions and inotropic agents on myocardial contraction and relaxation

    Author : Martin Fredholm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; strain echocardiography; right heart catheterization; cardiac surgery; heart failure; levosimendan; milrinone; left ventricular function; right ventricular function; systole; diastole; preload; afterload; pacing; longitudinal function; ventricular dimensions; ventricular interdependence;

    Abstract : Background: Although reductions in myocardial contractility and relaxation are key compo-nents in heart failure (HF), assessment of them is difficult, as clinical measurements deal with a net effect of myocardial contractility, heart filling (preload), outflow impedance (afterload) and heart rate (HR). Echocardiographic (echo) deformation parameters, like strain (myocardial shortening) and strain rate (the speed of deformation, SR), have been proposed to more accu-rately measure myocardial function, but incongruent previous studies have raised concerns that they may be load-dependent. 5. 5. Ventricular rotation and the rotation axis : a new concept in cardiac function

    Author : Ulf Gustafsson; Anders Waldenström; Per Lindqvist; Alan Fraser; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Left ventricular function; right ventricular function; rotation; twist; rotation axis; transition plane; ischemia; speckle tracking echocardiography; Cardiology; Kardiologi; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Abstract : Background: The twisting motion of the left ventricle (LV), with clockwise rotation at the base and counter clockwise rotation at the apex during systole, is a vital part of LV function. Even though LV rotation has been studied for decades, the rotation pattern has not been described in detail. READ MORE
