  1. 1. Arthritis Susceptibility and Tolerance in Collagen Transgenic Mice

    Author : Vivianne Malmström; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rheumatology locomotion; animal model arthritis collagen autoimmunity tolerance cartilage mice; muscle system; Skeleton; Skelett; muskelsystem; reumatologi;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on work trying to understand the normal and pathological interactions taking place between the immune system and cartilage, specifically involving the cartilage-specific protein typ II collagen (CII). The work has been carried out in an experimental model of rheumatoid arthritis namely collagen type II induced arthritis (CIA) in mice. READ MORE

  2. 2. Spatial Tissue Mapping on Joint Biopsies from Arthritis Patients

    Author : Konstantin Carlberg; Patrik Ståhl; Vivianne Malmström; Anna-Karin Hultgård Ekwall; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immune prediction; Rheumatoid arthritis; Spatial RIN; Spatial Transcriptomics; Spondyloarthritis; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease that mainly affects joints, causing discomfort and pain that severely reduces the life quality of affected individuals. Its etiology is largely unknown, but some pathophysiological mechanisms have been identified. READ MORE

  3. 3. Antibody- and Peptide-based Immunotherapies : Proof-of-concept and safety considerations

    Author : Erika Fletcher; Sara Mangsbo; Vivianne Malmström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immune complex; conjugat; vaccine; CD40; whole blood; cytokine release syndrome; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : The aim of cancer immunotherapy is to eradicate tumours by inducing a tumour-specific immune response. This thesis focuses on how antibodies and peptides can improve antigen presentation and the subsequent tumour-specific T cell response. Tumour recognition by the immune system can be promoted through delivery of antigen in the form of a vaccine. READ MORE

  4. 4. Immunological profile and aspects of immunotherapy in type 1 diabetes

    Author : Maria Hjorth; Maria Faresjö; Johnny Ludvigsson; Rosaura Casas; Vivianne Malmström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Abstract : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a chronic, autoimmune disease caused by a T cell mediated attack on the insulin producing pancreatic ß-cells. Even though reasonable quality of life can be acquired with modern insulin therapy, prevention of acute and late serious complications is facilitated by preservation of residual insulin secretion. 5. 5. T Regulatory Cells – Friends or Foes?

    Author : Camilla Lindqvist; Angelica Loskog; Thomas Tötterman; Vivianne Malmström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Treg; T regulatory cell; FoxP3; CD25; CLL; B-cell lymphoma; Clinical immunology; Klinisk immunologi; Klinisk immunologi; Clinical Immunology;

    Abstract : T regulatory cells (Tregs) have been extensively studied in patients with cancer or autoimmunity. These cells hamper the immune system’s ability to clear tumor cells in cancer patients. In autoimmune diseases, on the other hand, they are not able to restrain autoreactive immune responses.
