  1. 1. Edible and Biodegradable Whey Protein Films as Barriers in Foods and Food Packaging

    Author : Martin Anker; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; water vapor permeability; critical gel concentration; BETA-lactoglobulin; whey protein; mechanical properties; moisture content; microstructure; glass transition temperature; oxygen permeability;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the characterization of whey protein films. The films were cast from heated aqueous solutions and dried in a climate room at 23 °C and 50% relative humidity for 16 h. The microstructure of the films was found to be dependent on the protein concentration, the plasticizers, and the pH. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modified Starches in aqueous and plastisol coating

    Author : Agneta Jansson; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Starch; Polyvinyl alcohol; Water vapor barrier; Tensile properties; Rheology; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The interest for coatings containing renewable materials has enlarged in the last decade. Materials from the nature are investigated like starch, cellulose derivatives, protein (gelatin), chitosane by many. In this study potato starch has been used. READ MORE

  4. 4. Wood Hydrolysate for Renewable Products

    Author : Yingzhi Zhu Ryberg; Ulrica Edlund; Ann-Christine Albertsson; Ann Cornell; Louise Staffas; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; wood hydrolysate; hemicellulose; oxygen permeability; PALS; film; coating; CMC; chitosan; HSP; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : Renewable biomass has been used by mankind for a long time for different purposes, from simply food to industrial products. Among a large family of polysaccharides, hemicellulose is non-edible but has shown a potential in many industrial fields such as medicine, agriculture and packaging. READ MORE

  5. 5. Interactions between Polymers in Dispersion Coating and Surface Sizing of Paper and Board

    Author : Caisa Johansson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Barrier dispersion coatings are applied to paper or board in order to lower the permeability of the material to liquids and gases. In the present study, the film formation and barrier properties of latices used for coating applications were investigated. READ MORE
