  1. 1. X-Ray Diagnostics in Combustion - Study of Particle Formation in Flames Using Combined Small- and Wide-Angle X-Ray Scattering

    Author : Linda Vallenhag; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nanoparticles; soot particles; WAXS; X-ray scattering; SAXS; combustion; Fysicumarkivet A:2014:Vallenhag;

    Abstract : In the thesis work, two X-ray scattering techniques, small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS and WAXS) were combined to study particle formation in-situ and non-intrusively in ethylene laboratory flames. Combining these two techniques enabled information concerning the size and concentration as well as the subnanometer structure of the nanoparticles within the 1–100 nm range there to be obtained. 2. 2. Multiscale X-ray Characterisation of Cellulose-based Solid Dispersions

    Author : Martina Olsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PXCT; WAXS; pharmaceutical formulations; multiscale characterisation; STXM; radiation damage; SAXS; X-ray imaging; solid dispersions; cellulose;

    Abstract : Cellulose-based solid dispersions are a promising formulation strategy for providing controlled drug release and dissolution enhancement of poorly soluble drugs. These dispersions can from structures on multiple length scales which can have both positive and negative effects on the functional properties of the formulation. READ MORE

  3. 3. X-ray free-electron laser based methods for structural and ultrafast dynamics studies of a photosynthetic reaction centre

    Author : David Arnlund; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; WAXS; wide-angle x-ray scattering; XFEL; x-ray free-electron laser; reaction center; structural biology; ultrafast dynamics;

    Abstract : Life on earth is fuelled by the energy of sunlight, which must first be captured and converted into a chemical energy form useful to the cell. This process is known as photosynthesis and the major pathway of this energy conversion is via photosynthetic reaction centres. READ MORE

  4. 4. Plant aquaporin regulation: Structural and functional studies using diffraction and scattering techniques

    Author : Michael Järvå; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; X-ray Crystallography; Membrane protein; Plasma membrane intrinsic protein; Aquaporin; pH gating; mercury; proteoliposome assay; water transport; SANS; SAXS; WAXS; nanodisc; liposome;

    Abstract : Water is the basis for life as we know it. It is only logical then that all organisms have evolved specialized proteins, aquaporins, which regulate water flow across their membranes. Plants, which are immobile, depend more on their environment and also use water flows to move, to breathe, and to grow. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ordered arrays of low-dimensional Au and Pd : synthesis and in situ observations

    Author : Giuseppe Abbondanza; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nanowires NWs ; nanorods; nanoparticles; Au; Pd; Al; Al2O3; anodization; nano-porous anodic aluminum oxide; powder diffraction; x-ray diffraction; x-ray scattering; SAXS; WAXS; grazing-incidence; two-dimensional surface optical reflectance;

    Abstract : Electrodeposition of metals in templates of nano-porous anodic aluminum oxide (NP-AAO) is a versatile way of fabricating ordered arrays of metal nanowires. Thanks to the self-arranged long-range hexagonal order of the pores, electrodeposition in NP-AAO is an easily scalable bottom-up synthesis route and an attractive alternative to traditional top-down fabrication methods such as electron beam lithography.
