1. Weld Pool Simulations
Abstract : This investigation is devoted to the study of welding and its effect on the workpiece, focusing on the thermo and fluid dynamical phenomena occuring during a autogenous or nonautogenous arc fusion welding process. Its aim is to simulate the behaviour of the weld pool and analyze the consequence of the solid-liquid phase change, thus obtaining a methodology for predicting the appearance of weld defects related to solidification and cooling. 2. Welds in the lean duplex stainless steel LDX 2101 : effect of microstructure and weld oxides on corrosion properties
Abstract : Duplex stainless steels are a very attractive alternative to austenitic grades due to their higher strength and good corrosion performance. The austenitic grades can often be welded autogenously, while the duplex grades normally require addition of filler metal. READ MORE

3. Predictability – an enabler of weld production development
Abstract : Predictability enables proactive control of the production instead of reactive inspection. The research presented in this thesis provides insights and tools to enable predictability in weld production. READ MORE

4. Computational weld mechanics : Towards simplified and cost effective FE simulations
Abstract : It is the demand of the world’s ever increasing energy crisis to reduce fuel consumption wherever possible. One way of meeting this demand is by reducing the weight of a structure by replacing thick plates of low strength steel with thin plates of high strength steel in the structure. READ MORE

5. Weld Cracking in Precipitation Hardening Ni-based Superalloys
Abstract : Manufacturing of hot structural components for aero engines requires the materials being used to be weldable. The high demands on strength and temperature resistance make nickel based superalloys the material of choice for this application. READ MORE
