  1. 16. Road runoff quality in cold climates

    Author : Camilla Westerlund; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Abstract : The main objective of the doctoral thesis was to investigate the complex processes and influencing factors affecting snowmelt-induced runoff and snowmelt quality in a cold climate under wintry conditions compared to non- winter conditions in areas with a warmer climate. In order to improve the understanding and knowledge of road-runoff quantity, quality and pollutant transport, snowmelt and rainfall runoff were studied and characterized in the laboratory and in the field, respectively. 2. 17. Water quality modeling based on landscape analysis: importance of riparian hydrology

    Author : Thomas Grabs; Jan Seibert; Kevin Bishop; Hjalmar Laudon; Brian McGlynn; Georgia Destouni; Irena Creed; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Water quality model; terrain analysis; geographical information system GIS; riparian zone; total organic carbon TOC; boreal catchments; Hydrology; Hydrologi; geografi med naturgeografisk inriktning; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : Several studies in high-latitude catchments have demonstrated the importance of near-stream riparian zones as hydrogeochemical hotspots with a substantial influence on stream chemistry. An adequate representation of the spatial variability of riparian-zone processes and characteristics is the key for modeling spatio-temporal variations of stream-water quality. READ MORE

  3. 18. Uncertainty Modelling in Hydrological Applications - Error Propagation Properties of Random Linear Systems

    Author : Jan Agerholm Høybye; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeology; floods; water quality; prediction uncertainty; differential equations; Stochastic hydrology; random functions; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; teknisk geografi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi;

    Abstract : In hydrological models for water resources management and planning, the model output or design quantities are functions of the input data and a number of parameters that are essentially stochastic processes or random variables. The task of uncertainty analysis is to estimate the uncertainty characteristics of the model output in terms of the uncertainties in the input, model parameters and initial conditions. READ MORE

  4. 19. Managing agricultural nutrient leaching within the EC Water Framework Directive in Sweden

    Author : Anna-Lena Bratt; Per Sandén; Martin Ljung; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nutrient leaching; agricultural pollution; C Water Framework Directive; water quality; legislation; övergödning; lantbruk; Water in nature and society; Vatten i natur och samhälle;

    Abstract : Agricultural management practices geared towards reducing nutrient leaching are in focus for the research presented in this thesis. Critical measures for reducing diffuse pollution from the agricultural sector depend on decisions of individual farmers. READ MORE
