1. Discrete element simulation of elasto-plastic shock waves in high-velocity compaction
Abstract : Elasto-plastic shock waves in high-velocity compaction of spherical metal particles are the focus of this thesis which consists of four papers (A-D). The compaction process is modeled by a discrete element method while using elastic and plastic loading, elastic unloading and adhesion at contacts. READ MORE

2. Model Studies of Surface Waves and Sediment Resuspension in the Baltic Sea
Abstract : Wave heights and periods of surface waves in the Baltic Sea have been modelled for a two-year period (1999-2000) with the wave model Hypas on an 11x11-km grid scale. There is a clear seasonal variation with higher waves during winter and lower during summer. READ MORE

3. Wind-wave interaction effects on offshore wind energy
Abstract : This thesis is devoted to the investigation of the impacts of fast moving ocean surface waves on the aerodynamics of offshore wind turbines. The impacts of non-locally generated waves (swell) on the Marine Atmospheric BoundaryLayer (MABL) and thereby on offshore wind turbine aerodynamics are studied numerically by using Large Eddy Simulations and the Actuator Line Method. 4. Novel Technique to Improve High-Velocity Cold Compaction : Processing of Polymer Powders and Polymer-Based Nanocomposite High Performance Components
Abstract : Compaction of polymer powders and polymer-based nanocomposites by uniaxial high-velocity cold compaction (HVC), by high-energy ball milling (HEBM) and using a novel technique, relaxation assists, was investigated with a focus on the process parameters, the compactibility characteristics, surface morphology and friction. The basic phenomena associated with HVC are explained and the general energy principle is introduced to explain the pull-out phenomenon, springback gradient, delay time, relative time of the pressure wave, and stick-slip phenomenon during the compaction process. 5. Large eddy simulation of transonic flow with shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction
Abstract : Large eddy simulations (LES) of shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction (SWTBLI) have been carried out. The flow configuration was that of transonic flow over a bump with inlet Mach number 0.75 and maximum Mach number 1.27. READ MORE
